N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

probably a noob question but..

my car is far too loud for my liking. will just a new muffler be able to fix the problem?

its just a b16a and i think it is a 2.5 right through, which i think is too big anyway. Im happy to sacrifice some performance in the aid of comfort and civility.

Suggestions?

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

your car doesnt sound overly loud when driving and it has the silencer thing in too...

smaller pipe diameter, big chunky reso in the middle and a twinloop will shut her up

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

Twinloop? My brother's silencer used to quieten his down quite a lot.
Do they make cheap twin loops?
2.5 is quite big for B16, but again, if you are going to put a 1.8 in there at some point it won't matter.

My old EG6 with the standard intake was crazy loud on full throttle, louder than any VTEC i've heard!

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

I have a twinloop, cant even hear it at cruising speed, sounds great on VTEC though!
(well I assume it does, the intake kinda over powers it)

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

even easier then doing that is just getting some blank gasket paper and making a retrictor gasket rather then a plate.

If the topic starter is after a permanent solution I wouldn't go the gasket route..

a reso wont quieten in down at all, its called a resonator not a muffler, get your local exhaust shop to put a couple of mufflers in the middle of your system.
2.5" is perfect for a b16

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

i beg to differ
ran a 2.5 on one of my old tegs with i/h/e and it went like total ass till 6k or more. no backpressure and just a bag of ass off vtec and around town. and god it was hella loud
buy adams system and be done with it lol im sure you can sell ur rear muffler at least, and probably keep that 2.5 for if you fit a bigger engine or one of the wsc may use it

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

2.5 inch is way to big for a stock b16, never heard ANYONE say its perfect :/

just stick a oval shape jasma stamped muffler on it Joff, will quiten it down heaps and if you got it with a 2.25inch inlet, would restrict the system a lil more to help the b16. No point buying a whole new system IMO

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

Umm...is my exhaust system too big?

2.25inch piping, probably 3inch tip. Only a standard DA7...what are some ways I can muffle the sound easily?

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

factory type rear mufflers, resonators in the centre section of the exhaust and a 2.25inch would probably be too big on a d-series non vtax?

Re: N00b exhaust q: make quieter?

dont get a cheapass cpa muffler, go to pittstop or whatever and get them to fit a decent sized oval muffler in the factory position
that should shut it up
