| Senior Member 8,000rpm (B Series Redline!) | Can be more than just the release bearing. If you put the clutch in and it dissappers it's more likely to be your input shaft bearings and if you say it gets worse on decelleration (like a rumbling noise in low gears) than i'm afraid it probably is. When you put your foot on the clutch in nuetral if the noise winds down and stops shortly after it is you input shaft bearings. Usually the main bearing closest to the engine. It's called an input shaft main bearing. If it was the release bearing it typically it is louder when the clutch is engaged and the pressure is placed on the bearing up against the pressure plate. If is was a spigot bearing it is only loud with you foot on the clutch (engaged) because when your foot is off the clutch (disengaged) the spigot bearing is not moving so cant make noise. |

The bearings are usually about $40 but you migth as well do the seals while your there, about another $15 each depending wher eyou get them from. If you pay someone to do it I wouldn't have a clue but it wont be cheap. | |

Location: Auckland | oh sorry about that... i have a habit of typing how i txt! as for crx_bob thanks for the reply and the link i am a noob and appreciate the quick cuts around the site... *as to what i said before... it may be a faulty install of the current clutch as the clutch in it before was a heavy duty and unsuitable for daily road use. i heard that the replacement clutch was a 2nd hand too, i went back to get the sound checked but they were quite dismissive of any fault in labour and assured that the clutch was ok and that it may be the box that has probs and dropped large figures on to me to get it diagnosed and replaced (if needed)... i was dismayed by the service and dont want to deal with them, if replacing all this solves the problem i will have a word with the dealer about who they are using.... i just want to maintain my car as it is not a cheap investment... your inputs n advice are all welcome... u learn new things everyday chur |
