| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Temporary intake setup need help My CL1 was bought completely stock and I've decided to start doing some work on it. Following the basic upgrade pattern recommended by everyone I/H/E.. I'm starting with the intakes. I've removed the resonator today but still using the stock air box and a blitz replacement filter for it (I didn't know the previous owner had popped a blitz in there). Question 1: Is is it alright to be driving around like this for a couple of weeks? I don't even have any venting at all. So it's just the factory air filter box sitting on a hole where the old resonator used to be. Question 2: I've hit the search button a couple of times and I've read something about using a spoon filter in the factory box? I don't think I've searched far enough or missed anything..but I'm under the impression that I just need to buy a similar rectangular replacement filter for the box. If not can anyone please explain to me what they're talking about..better yet point me to the correct link? Question 3: I just need to decide on either a cold air intake that drops behind the fender just about the wheels like this: Which one do i go for? http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...Prod=69-1500TP but am concerned as to water might be an issue. I've thought about it for a while and i'm quite convinced that there'd have to be flood or a fire hose up the wheel are to get water into the spot where the air filter's going to be sitting in. Otherwise I'll just use a short ram intake in a custom carbon fibre box. Long post, i know, I did my reading and searching but being new to all this..I need all the help I can get. cheers! |

| Senior Member 18,000rpm+ Honda F1! | 1: perfectly fine to do this while u decide on what to do, will do no harm at all. as long as theres a filter in there 2: id personally go for a Sohrt ram or a CAI over a filter in the stock box, but if u like the look of the stock box get a deciant filter in there 3: Thats personal deciasion really as the power difference between manufactures will be not a lot. the deciasion u have to make is cold aire itake or short ram intake. im a big fan of SRI with a cold air box as it has the advantages of both the short ram and the CAI |

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | like wise im a fan of a decent short ram set up, recommend a decent filter on a 3" pipe - i use an apexi filter but simota is good bang for buck so it depends what you want to spend. then box it up and duct it to your front bumper 8)

| Senior Member 5,000rpm (VTEC Power!) | I have the stock airbox with a spoon filter in it. It just sits over the hole from the resonator and draws it's air from the from the space in front of the wheel well. I still think this is a more than adequate set up. I would prefer an intake pipe that didn't heat up as much as the rubber, but not sure if there are small diameter pipes around without pissing around with oversized intake pipes. |

However, I'm driving a CL1 and filter is a panel type? A blue blitz filter is sitting in there right now..think that'll do fine? Someone else has the setup in the internets.. ![]() Except i don't have the whacky vent mod done.. it's just the filter box. This is how it's setup at the moment. ![]() (again except no ghetto vent) it's just getting air from the space in front of the wheel well. Am I risking sucking in water at all with this setup? I've got splash guards and stuff.. | |

Location: North Shore City | Dionysus here, same setup, no water will get in there. You'd have to be submerged nearly up to the sills. Don't get to hung up on intake, the most important thing is the filter. Mine is Spoon panel, a drop in replacement for the standard filter. Everyone wants cold air feeds. Live somewhere colder!

| Senior Member 7,000rpm (Peak Power) | yea no chance of water getting into there, hell my filter is sitting right by the front wheel and its sweet. if you want to keep the airbox and use a panel filter, theres a thread around here somwhere giving tips on how to extend the hole in the bottom to open it up for a cold air feed from the bumper, would work a treat ![]()

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Checked out a couple of sites and from what I'm seeing... A mugen intake is basically just a stock airbox with ducted cold air running into the hollow part where the resonator used to be? $1600 for that? Sounds like I might just do with a DIY 'Me'gen! |

| Senior Member 7,000rpm (Peak Power) | yea it wouldnt be hard. ive seen a thread where someone got hold of another airbox, extended the factory one using this 2nd box to make it wider then put a large hole in the bottom, fiberglassed a section below it in a funnel shape, then attatched a cold air feed to the bottom of the funnel. theres your mugen intaqke right thurr

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | That would be this one I think, http://nzhondas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=67764 Number of times people have looked at it and it has been linked to it deserves a big  for DIY design. Good effort from WAY TC
