Crank Scrapers: GROUP BUY

Ive been doing a bit of reading about sump modifications and i was wondering if anyone here had used a crank scraper?

As seen at www.crank-scrapers.com

Someone on HT reconed they got a 5hp gain from one.

A worthwhile modificaiton? I am intending to make a baffle for my sump while i have it off so it probably wouldnt be too much more effort to get a crank scraper cut while im at it.

Group Buy
Pricing:
B18C/B16A..........$155
D15B VTEC..........$70
H series/F series...$80 *get in quick price may go up shortly!!!
K20.................... not available

For teflon versions add $115

For B series and D series scrapers there are additional options, see the website for details.

Postage will be around $25 per scraper.

Final pricing in steel:
B series $200
H/F series $125
D series $115

Need PM's to confirm your interest before Wednesday 1st August

And then payment to be made by Wednesday 8th August.

Talk to Don F on HT, he has seen some very cost effective gains from them, but usually only on engines with moderate and higher modifications.

There is an outfit who regularly auction them on ebay. made for various Honda engines and in different materials.

here you go, just remembered i have it on my permanent watchlist

Cheers for the link. I was intending to make my own template and then get one laser cut, but for that price it hardly seems worth it.

Would anyone else be interested in getting one too? Could split postage and save $20

Hmm I think 5hp+ maybe obtainable from a high revving higher output honda engine. Maybe a stockish ITR could gain 3-4 hp?
But if you are building a race motor then could be an idea.
Also no sure if the 2.5% increase in power was using the teflon scrapers and clearanced?

By my logic, the majority of the gains are from removing the majority of the oil cloud, so the last 5% you get with the super tight clearance teflon scraper is probably not terribly significant.

Teflon scraper removes even more oil from the rotating assembly.
The max they got was 2.5% increase using the steel scraper on the B series engine.

Dunno how much more the teflon would do?

Hi,

...

In answer to your question, if you buy three or more items I would be willing to give you a 10% discount. Shipping varies by weight and insurance. I just calculated several different rates for some of your mates in NZ. http://ircalc.usps.gov/default.aspx?...ngle&CID=10324

If you are after B16-B18 parts here is the section on them from our website; you can view the pics at: http://www.crank-scrapers.com/prod01_B.html
The dyno results below were from a simple steel scraper about 3-4 years ago -- the designs have advanced several times since then. Team Honda Research is currently running both the B16-B18 Tef scraper with modified tray and the B18C type R Tef scraper with modified tray. Another Team Honda Research employee is running the D16 windage tray setup.

Kind regards,

Kevin Johnson

Pricing to be confirmed but hopefully under $150.

5hp for under $150 is pretty good! Only the NZhondas sticker + 10hp beats that

And there are better gains to be had on turbo cars apparently, something to do with the extra blow by.

*Edited for possibly more accurate pricing

I read 3 or more items as 3 or more of any item, not 3 of the same item. Im sure he just gets them laser cut as he needs them.

Just fit it when you do your next oil change. All you have to do is undo the little bolts on your sump and put the scraper in. There is a full 'How To' write up on Honda-Tech with pics, ill find the link for you. I believe they may need a little shaping to match your specific bottom end if you have any non-standard parts under there.

On an unrelated note, did you get my PM chuckles2?

You will probably need to trim the scraper to fit round the eagle rods as they are bigger than the Honda ones.

Not sure where you will be at with a knife edged crank however aside from the weight saving, the crank scraper actually does most of what knife-edging does anyway.

Ill find the link to the 'how to fit your crank scraper' on HT.

EDIT: Right thurrr

Right ill start taking names for a group buy and we shall see how it looks.

Provisional purchase date of Monday 6th of August, that gives you a week to think about it and then a week to pay for it

PM me with what you want if you are definately in.

PM me with any queries regarding price and I will pass them on. I will edit the first post with prices as I confirm them so people can get a general idea. Basic price list should be up by tomorrow hopefully

Yeh Im keen, iv'e been emailing these guys last week.

For a full duel scraper setup with teflon scrapers and then adding screening to the windage tray it would be $344.90 US! plus 41.30 postage.

So for a full race scraper setup it would be $386.20 US. So quite a bit really!

Without screening added and without the duel scraper teflon it would be 109.95 plus postage US!

So the price you got for under 100 N.Z is pretty dam good. How did you manage that?

P.S They were telling me the crank girdle on a few engines decrease power up to 5% because it makes the windage cloud worse. They said many high revving N/A SR20 engines remove the girdle.

EDIT: from their website
B-series dual scraper with internal baffles (please specify engine): $134.95

Teflon bladed version: $234.95

Then if you want to add windage tray screening (further windage cloud reduction and oil temp reduction)
Honda B18C5 or type R series with the stock girdle: steel scraper version $109.95; Teflon bladed scraper version -- also $109.95

its $109.95 for the SCREENING and $134.95 for the SCRAPER.
Postage was 41.30 on all of this.

I get the feeling he may have told me an incorrect price, the pricing on their website is more inline with the prices you have there Coupe-R.

He should be emailing me a full Honda price list tomorrow so hopefully that will straighten it all out. As soon as I know ill post it all up here
