Location: Auckland | Induction Noise? Hey there... I'm new to NZHondas and just bought my first Honda last week - a 1997 Teg SiR-G. It has a cold air intake and pod filter mounted down near the front bumper. It also has cheap RPS headers, standard exhaust and an RPS muffler with a 4 1/2inch tip. I took it along to an LTSA and NZPC exhaust testing day in Papakura on Sat and it measured in at 111.5db which is way to loud. OK... my problem is: Today I had the RPS muffler replaced with an XForce twinloop. While it has quitened down (heaps) there no longer seems to be a noticeable induction noise when VTEC kicks in at 4500rpm. Does anyone have an explanation for this and is there anything I can do about it? Cheers |

You should have got a silencer, i reckon coz now its not straight thru. I think twinloops are chambered? N1 style mufflers will give you the 4500rpm exhaust sound.

Location: Christchurch | I have heard the XForce Twinloops break apart their bafflings break apart really quickly... that's just something to consider when thinking about changing it .

Location: Auckland | Thanks guys. Yeah I bought it off a guy named Amit who also has a white Evo 4... nice guy. I heard the X-Force twinloops are cheap chinese made rubbish and the RPS headers suck too but it's a nice straight car in and out with good compression on all 4 cyclinders. I'm planning on swapping over to TRR headers, fitting a 2 1/4inch exhaust, and maybe a Remus straight through muffler because apparently they aren't too loud. |

| Senior Member 3,000rpm (Grandma Drag) | id like to see any honda on here pass the Db limits... my car failed with 2 19" reso's and a proper rear muffler. 80db before lift off...96db after lift off...94db with a slow lift off

Location: Auckland | True.... maybe I just need to push it harder. I'm having TRR headers and a custom stainless mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust fitted tommorow so that should open it up a bit more. Thinking maybe of changing the CAI to a short ram intake with cold airbox because it's more protected from the elements and apparently makes a louder VTEC roar. |

| Senior Member 8,000rpm (B Series Redline!) | Yeah you'll lose the induction noise that vtecs are known for with a 2.5" exhaust.... Mines not that noticable, I guess its just because everythings flowing alot nicer But the Vtec at 4500 sounds pretty sweet

| Senior Member 3,000rpm (Grandma Drag) | Hi there, hope im not thread jacking (sorry if i am) but i have a AEM CAI on my itr with standard headers and exhaust, and has a very loud vtec cross-over which i REALLY love. But im looking to upgrade the headers and exhaust for more power obviously. Now the 1 thing that im a wee bit worried about is that if i get a new exhaust i wont be able to hear my vtec kick in. So can anyone please help/advise me what sort of exhaust Brand/model/design/size would be suitable for my needs. Thanks |
