IM & TB mods *PICS*

I have been doin some work to the intake side of my B18CR

I got the TB bored to 70mm mouth/65.5mm butterfly from Maxbore.com

Then the Intake manafold had this lip

So I die grinded it down and polished it up, flows in and tapers nicely. Also bored the gasket to fit nicely.

Also bead blasted up the IM and bought a Gizzmo thermal gasket

Hopefully the results are good

cost $25 NZ to send and $105US to machine. If u know anyone in NZ that will taper bore it and recalibrate the TPS and install+do a good job go for it!

Hey, that actually looks pretty slick! How much is the freight for it to be sent back here to NZ?

A couple of us have had it done in NZ for $100 all up. Perfect job! I had mine taper bored from 68 down to a 64mm butterfly cause I didn't want to port match my inlet manifold again. The other one was a 70 - 65mm job.

You will want to calibrate the TPS on the car just to be sure - takes about 60 seconds with a multimeter while fitting the TB.

70mm inlet on an ITR TB brings it almost to a point ~ about 1mm at most but then there is the lip that gives it some meat as it tapers down so it'll be strong enough.

thats VERY cheap, cheapest i cld find in NZ was $250.

The freight back was around $20US. Once adding everything up and converting it cost me NZ $250 in total to do it. so $100 with new butterfly which fits perfectly and taper bored is VERY cheap!

P.S at 70mm it is very thin, won't break but if u dropped or knocked something on the end of it, it wld be all ova ops:
thats why i leave the silcon join on when working with it

Yeah i've got a Spoon one too. Nice piece of kit but i couldn't notice a difference in power.

It tappers down to the factory ITR size which is 62mm. Spoon did this for group N production racing where you're not allowed to bore the throttle body out, the butterfly must remain the same size. So to get around this rule and extract a little bit more power out of the engine Spoon just tapper bored the entry to the throttle body. This keeps them sweet with the rules but allows a little bit more power.

Its the same with a few other things Spoon does like their 4 pot calipars. They're exactly the same size pad wise as factory 98spec ITR's. This is because they must run the same size pads in the group N production so to make the most of them they chuck the lighter 4 pots in which give a little bit better braking precision been 4 pot. But they're oh so nice!!

Anyway back on topic, i've thought about getting my Spoon throttle body bored out to 64mm at the butterfly just to get some more power out of it but is it wrong to modify Spoon haha? . I already port matched my CTR intake manifold to 64mm before i found out the above...

EDIT: Whoops didn't realise how old this thread was...

Wondered why people started asking me about bead blasting the intake again???

None, dunno if it lost or gained power. It would be something I would do if getting big cams. It did it as an incase measure.

Yeh I should get cams on the motor one day, still a stock ITR motor 141kw tho, goes ok but smoky

No bead blasting = beads.
Sand blasting = sand.

Just noticed the small aluminium filings around the butterly and shaft. I hope you cleaned it all out before installing it?
