F20B vs B20 minime

which of the two has better aftermarket tuning potential? as far as i can tell both are DOHC VTEC, 2L donks. there have been excellent examples of both engines, so wanna know which has better potential in terms of NA tuning.

will do a HT search in a min, but yeah any opinions on this?

mine's a bit biased cos im driving a torneo sirt. but as far as my experience and my knowledge, f20b is quite powerful on high rev. however, b20 is good for low end torque. if u after hard revving machine, f20b is the way to go.

for aftermarket performance, u can install some h22a parts like header to exhaust, intake (depending on model of car), etc etc. what ive heard is that f20b is the detuned version of h22a. but dunno the exact, its just rumors. correct me if im wrong.

Im sure the F20b is just the destroked version of the H22a so it can rev a bit better?

If you're looking at an engine conversion for your Civic, i'd say go for the B20 as i'd imagine you would need custom mounts to fit the F20 inside your engine bay whereas the B20 will slot in without great drama.

Where's the option for K20!!!

F20 has the advantage of being a factory built engine (more reliable) where as a b20 hybrid isnt. There's a million threads for and against b20's [search on honda-tech and there's a good one in our hybrid forum] so do some reaserch before making your decision.

Well, if it's going to be transplanted into an EG Civic, I recall someone saying that H22A mount kits for it would work for the F20B.

The F20B is also lighter than a H22A, so I don't really know if it's the same block destroked.

The B20 VTEC has potential. But the air/fuel ratios are not good higher up in the rev range. But if built properly and tuned properly, I'm sure they will be just as reliable.

Everything I have ever read supports the fact that it is the same block de-stroked for 2lt class racing in Japan. This makes sense due to everything from the H22 bolting straight up no prob's. F20B has higher redline and compression to compensate for smaller bore.

How much lighter is it? I've never heard that. (not saying its not true :wink
