Location: Kaiapoi | New Exhaust Well finally got my new exhaust system fitted, some would have heard on the Hanmer cruise and I thought I might post up my results. After much deliberation I went for the Autobend AKA ‘Rage’ 4-1 headers, 2 ½ press bent pipe 18inch single Coby and a Fireball ‘HKS’ style stainless tuneable muffler. The muffler I got off Ebay $150 landed and features a removable silencer that has a small disk that can open or close extra holes through the silencer giving different exhaust notes. At low rpm with no silencer, there is a distinct droning sound but up at 100km it’s actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. With the silencer in place it is quiet right through the rev range and the neighbours don’t here me come home at night. ![]() ![]() ![]() My Assessment The mild steel Autobend headers were Pro-coated and cost $358 all up. The welding finish is average ( bear in mind I work in an engineering firm) the exhaust flange is CNC laser cut to match exactly the original, but in assembly the pipes are inserted into the flange exhaust holes therefore giving a reduced hole. The inserted pipes had been ground with a die grinder to give some ‘lead-in’, not as neat as I would have liked, more time could have been spent getting it right before coating. The Headers were pro-coated (ceramic) giving them a semi polish appearance. The O2 sensor hole had to be re-tapped, as the thread was coated too. A bolt in the O2 hole would have fixed this problem if it had been thought about. Costs: Headers $358 Muffler $150 Fitting, exhaust gasket, stainless flex joint, pipe & Coby $460 Total $968 Using my G-tech pro I’ve gained on average 10hp extra and reduced my ¼ mile time by half a second. I did a ton of runs on different days and that’s my average amounts. I’m quite happy with the sound and feel of the car, kind of like having a new toy I guess. The test will be the next WOF, I might have to fit an in pipe silencer. We’ll see, most of time the silencer will be in anyway. Short movies before and after exhaust fitting, (note car was cold with original muffler hence crap being blown out )Edit....go to the folder...lol http://images.nzhondas.com/gallery/album193 sorry about that ops: |

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Nice setup  Just wondering where you can get those headers from? im going to be looking at getting some 4-1 for the teg at some point. Did they come coated or did you do this after you puchased them? also any idea if they are available with 2 o2 sensor bungs for b16a1? sorry for all the questions, but I might as well get them all out at once ![]()

Location: Hastings | Damn, if the header was $358 already Procoated then the actual pipework was only about $100! Procoating a header is about $250. 8O

| i just rang them, talked to Mark, very helpful, i have a ITR he quoted me $220 odd for extractors but thats for just the tope part, need someone to make up the collector section. grey coating that apparently doesnt burn off. They can send to Auckland. The Model number is EHX822 and is the same set for B16A and B18C engines. Anyone know if by putting on aftermarket headers for a Type R integra it will give good gains? |

Location: Kaiapoi | I haven't felt any noticable loss of low end power, but there might be ... dunno. For those who are interested I was running an average 16.3sec 1/4 miles times with best of 16.1sec before the full exhaust. With the new system 15.8sec average with 15.5 my best time. Using an Online Dyno that equates to 151hp @ 16.3 and 166hp @ 15.5. Bit slow 1/4's I know, Del Sol's are quite heavy ( 1150kg ) and I need more 1/4 practice ops: Mike ![]() |

Ive only ever been to drags once and my best was a 16.2 with full interior and 30psi in tyres with it totally stock but that was missing 4th and crossing the line in neutral so should be able to get high 15s with that setup | |
