ef-3 gearboxes?? wats my best option?

well suprisingly another civic needs a gearbox...due to syncros um some one told me an idea tht putting an older civic gear box...e.g a 1985 civic 1300cc gearbox on a zc motor, apparently tht would have closer ratio????? or i could put a standard b16a box on my zc.....OR keep with the standard zc gearbox???

wat is the best idea?

please, some one must of tried one of these before...

cheerz

At a guess, I wouldn't think the 1300 g/box will fit. A b16a box will definately NOT fit. You could shop around and see if you can get a cheap ZC gearbox, but to be honest you could end up buying a shocker and be back at square one. Best bet is probably to bite the bullit and get your box reconditioned.

I wouldn't bother trying to change the ratios in an ef3. They are pretty good from the factory and it'll end up being more trouble than its worth.

My opinion would be to replace the gearbox and at the same time install a lightened flywheel to reduce future stress on the synchros. Also try not flatshifting on redline except when absolutely necessary (ie on the strip)

I'm with the old skool honda supporter. The gear ratios are pretty hard to beat, comin from drivin an ef crx evry day. I have been told that the zc gearbox it one of the weak points on the ef hondas so it mite pay to go a lil easy.

the final drive ratio in the EF's are normally pretty crap (3.8:1) you can get a gearbox out of the same gen integra (not sure which type at the moment) as they have a 4.2:1 diff ratio and put your gears from ur si into it.

this gives you a better diff ratio for acceleration and still the nice close gears or a EF3/7.

the best bet to find this gearbox that im rambling about is go into a wreckers and ask them to let you look at there manuals which have all the listinings of all the gearboxs. look through the L3 box's till you find the one ur after.

by doing this your top speed decreases, but who ever see's 200ks any way.

pic a part would be your best bet for compeditive prices and they normally have a few EFs even if they ant EF3's they should all work for a peddel box and linkages, you would need a fly wheel etc as well.
