Sounds installation problem EDITED!

NEW PROBLEMS!!

(1)I just need to know, what cables activate the protection light on the amp. Its weird because I am so sure my power and earth cable are connected correctly, but yet the protection light does not come on. May the remote or rca cables cause the lighting of the amp?

Problem is that I have connected up a sub and amp etc and the amp gets no power and I do not know what is causing it.

(2) headdeck in my mates car is working all good, however when the car turns off it looses its memory of saved channels and bass settings etc.

Any help would be apprecaited

Re: Headdeck installation problem

Id say make sure your Headunit is getting enough power or is grounded well enough. Possibly use a voltmeter just to confirm everythings getting enough power? Otherwise Faulty Headunit?

You let the smoke out, I'd say it's toast.

Re: Headdeck installation problem

The fuseable link stops the smoke. If it is an earlier unit, off it goes with a poof.

Sounds stuffed. Did you buy it brand new from a shop? If so doesn't mater if you dont have a warrenty. Consumer gaurantees act should cover you.

Re: Headdeck installation problem

most only cover warranty if installed by a qualified tech, not a Muppet (not saying he is a muppet, but stops muppets fucking them then claiming teh product is faulty)

sounds like the internal amp fried.

try taking it all out and "Bench testing" with a power source and a speaker, try out all channels etc.

maybe teh wiring in the old Hiace is poo?

Re: Headdeck installation problem

may find it still has sound through the rca's tho.......I had a head unit like that.

blew the speaker channells but the rca still worked so could run it through an amp.

yea consumers gaurantees act dosnt cover blowing that shit up unless done by an installer.

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

But if the channels were blown, would that cause the display screen to go dim?

Nope, no RCA's were used.
The Hiace only had two front speakers. So there wasnt much wires to get it stuffed out, am just really confused how everything was working well but when I disconnect it and reconnect it it goes boof.
But yea I took the headdeck back, and the seller said this wasnt the first time this has happened (Client of my brothers courier franchise) so now it is replaced, and working =] Thanks for help all.

Haha I have been having some bad luck with car audio lately so maybe I am a Muppet.

But now! I have more problems! Please read post one if you feel generous and want to help me out again =] Thanks.

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

Hi Aces have a$$ wiring in them so there could be a short in power or speaker...speaker shouldn`t cause it to smoke so more than likely something more serious......if the HU looses memory when off there is no constant power getting to the HU so its connected to ACC power on when key on circuit..needs constant through fuse setup....
If it smoked its gone probably..if it smoked lots it components gone like caps or Power outputs......
ALWAYS get the HU installed by a pro...warranty is usually extended and its in there right!!!! the rest you can put in if you use ya brain and get help if you are new from the RIGHT people.....
This keeps coming up all the time so there are some people in the forum that can help as they are professionals or have put a few systems in.....
If ya want help ask....Fre3k.....Pauls Audio as the are pro`s....me, CRXBOB.
There will be more here but I don`t know them personally.....

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

^^ Good advice for the original problem and the new #2.

For the new #1, speakers of incorrect impediance can cause the protection light... but it as you say there is no power in the amp, it isn't turned on so the protection light won't show... odd. Sort out if it actually has power going to it first. Use a DMM across the + and - terminals and see what reads. Either there will be nothing or not enough to turn the amp on. A broken fuse could cause this.

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

Thanks ThunderChild, and freak.

I wouldnt consider myself a pro but I have installed numerous HU, car audio but been coming up with problems recently. Guess part of the process of learning i guess, but appreciate all the help you guys provide here =] Very friendly.

Old problem is sorted and the new headdeck is working fine as I plugged the harness in from my old wiring, so was a faulty good =] (I wouldnt dare to disconnect and reconnect though, haha)

New #1, Hmm so the remote and rca wiring connected from the HU to amp would not cause the protection light correct? Yea I have a feeling its the fuse or maybe the the earth.

New #2, I will just leave it and let him fix it himself haha.

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

Protection light could be an internal fault with the amp... does the light still come on if no speakers are connected?

What impediance is the sub, and what type of amp is it?

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

Its a Alpine v12 and a 1300W sony xplod sub, sorry cant get the full model specs atm.

I tried using my own lanzar amp on it and the light did not come on either. My lanzar amp is used to power the exact same sub in my own car.

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

Is the sub single or dual voice coil? How many channels does the amp have? Are you aware of Ohms Law?

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

its dual voice coil channel has 2 channels..

Thing was, this set up was working prior to this installation, therefore I am sure its something to do with the wiring...

Re: Sounds installation problem EDITED!

How is it wired? If it is a dual 4 ohm sub, you could be presenting 2 ohms to a bridged 2 channel amp, which will more than likely cause the protection to come on.
