Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

I have missed ALL of this thread so ill just join in now

You not getting that amp from CHCH anymore?

I now officially have 3 stereos in all 3 cars! Yay!

EDIT: My bet would really look into some front componants.... I seriously think you need them to really finish off the nice clear sound.

They will be the next thing for my Honda.

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

My suggestion is power cable on the passenger side. There is a grommet for entry to the firewall just below the battery.... I wonder why people use the drivers side when that means they have to run the cable across the firewall.

RCA's I used the drivers side as there is some nice conduit in there where you can run them. Also the console in the middle doesn't like too fatter cables going under it if you run cables down the transmission tunnel.

For amp grounds, I've used the bolts where the bottom of the back seat is attached.

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

I have used driver side for power cable (My battery is on the other side) and have run RCAs and remote wire down the centre under carpet.

I have made an earth under the boot trim on the side of the body.

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

nice tips fr3ck....I havnt been a good boy today but I have fitted both subs up and run the cableing from the subs down to under the drivers seat where the amp will reside (so yes power cable will cross over)
took alot of work but subs are not visable from the outside......how they sound is another story that time will tell

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

whoops forgot the pic....They are snug as a bug but the lack of enclosure may be an issue.....sorry for the crap pic but had no flash on the camera I used

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

Sweet!

Is there much room left when the factory trim goes over the top?

There is a couple of things you can do to make up for the lack of enclosure: Dynamat the outer metal skin so it is more solid, cover the access holes around where the woofer is mounted, and Dynamat over those also.

acess holes are getting done, I just ran out of day, cutting those holes out with an air hacksaw with blunt blades = loose !!!

no theres not alot (read none) of room between the sub and the panel but I think there is just enough!!! If not im going to have to trim a little back and use aftermarket grilles to keep them coverd but for now the factory covers clip into place (with the help of a cable tie) over them and alls well

HU and amp go in next weekend, the mrs has no idea what ive done to the car sofar....she thinks I took it to work for 6 hours this arvo to fit some tyres and fix the horn

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

So no room to put a 18mm MDF ring between the sub and the metal?

I reckon they would run a lot better with one. It also means you can run No More Gaps or Space Invader under the MDF ring to get an air tight seal to the metal so there are no air leaks around the sub.

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

I know but honestly there just isnt, I had a sheet of MDF with me and my jigsaw and all but it wasnt going to happen without major surgery to the rear panels.....we'll see what happens tho, If it sounds like poo's then I will pull it apart and start over maybe get some mad moulding going on so the back steps out and the subs can sit out further but for now we'll just wait and see

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

minor update, headunit went in this arvo and amp cables have been laid.........fucking brilliant idea to have to remove the entire centre console rear to front to get to one silly little screw at the back of the factory HU

anyway thats all sorted, should have a finished update tomorrow if my day goes well

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

anyway, with this four channel amp I have its got inputs (on either side) so in order to run it one sub bridged off each pair of channels does that mean I either need to run two sets of RCA's off the HU from the two pairs of preouts or I just run one set of RCA and use a splitter.....I would assume it would work better running two RCA leads ??

or do I only need to run one set into one set of inputs and its all sweet ????

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

I would of thought that one set of RCAs would do the trick.

I wouldnt use a splitter anyway.

*Waiting for someone else to confirm*

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

yes but do I need input to both channels in order to use both channels output?

I wouldnt have imagined it would matter if you use a splitter as the amp is going to amplify its input anyway eh ....??

Re: thoughts/experiances on pioneer ts-sw841d subs

RCA on both sides...? One set will be the inputs, and the other may be outputs for daisy chaining. Hard to say without seeing the amp.

Use splitters to break up your RCA signal from the sub out of the headunit. Split the + in to two +, and the - in to two -. You then have your two sets of plugs, one for the left input, one for the right input.

Yes, the input voltage suffers, but use higher gains to compensate.
