Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

Is this realistic, or theoretical?

I have an Alpine. Was second only to the Alpine F1 Status and Phantom Face models in its time. Three-way crossover network with time alignment and all the drama. Good unit, but the user interface is not logical and takes time to learn. Generally speaking, I've found Pioneer to be the easiest to use for me.

If money was no object, it would be the Clarion HX-D2, or the Pioneer P9 transport and external processor combo for 4-way crossover network action. Or maybe a car PC...

But yeah, depends what you want. Most are easy enough to use these days. Some come with better external media support.... is there any reason in particular you are asking?

Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

I voted panasonic for the ease of use and I like it that they stick rca inputs on the rear of the units which alot of others dont.

also pioneer is great for ease and also they are very adjustable in terms of low/mid/high can be adjusted individually as opposed to just having bass and treble control.

I can't believe Pioneer has been left out . It would take a lot of convincing for me to buy anything but, prefer them to any other brand I've owned/used.

Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

I've always used Sony and I like them. Sure it doesn't have the high end features that Pioneer and Alpine has but it's easy to use and works fine. I'm using the CDX-F7700 which is quite old but still decent.

And then that 3 band EQ is also parametric usually so you can adjust the width of the frequency each band affects

The new Pioneer P80RS models are like 16-band or something

Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

Pioneer for sure. Alpine are too hard to use.

Get one that can take USB, get 4 GB USB memory for about $20 and dump your MP3s onto it. Just make sure whatever you get has a good user interface and you don't have to scroll through every song to find the one you want.

Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

i voted Alpine, cos i have a 9835 and love it! but Pioneer are also very good, especially the P80RS

this is if you're looking for a top end SQ headunit though... if you're just looking for something cheap and easy to use, there are a lot of cheaper options that do the job well
it all depends what you want it for

Yea im sure most people on here would be happy with any decent brand model with basic features. More money for perfromance parts . Hard to buy performance parts and new sounds with my limited budget haha

Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

in saying that... 9835's can be picked up second hand for around $350, and P80RSIIs, brand new for ~$500?

so sometimes it doesn't cost that much more for something that will sound a whole lot better than a base model unit

Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

I've tried pretty much every brand and I've gotta say the best quality unit I had was a Rockford Fosgate 9220. Not a whole heap of fancy features but was extremely well built, oozed quality with things like a full copper chassis. It had a great internal amp too, which is why it must've weighed 50% more than your average head unit

I've changed to a Pioneer 6050 now for its ipod controlling capability, its not a bad unit

Re: Which head unit do you prefer?

I'd vote fusion, not because I know anything about head units or sounds all together (don't ever let me wire your sounds ) but I have one and its pretty and controls my ipod ^_^ It happened to be on special when I looked for sounds

none taken. if you're talking about their lower end units, i'd totally agree, but their top units are some of the best out there
just a pity they don't look a bit nicer
