Components/Amp/Installers

Hey guys,

I wanna upgrade my front speakers and since I already have Pioneer TSD691Rs in the parcel tray, I wanted to get some nice components for up front...

http://www.pioneernz.co.nz/default.a...ckCode=TSC160R Are these good?

What kind of amp should I hit?

And where is a good, cheap place on the Shore to install it?

Where will they most likely put the amp and what am I looking at overall for the components, amp and install?

** Autosoundz any good? **

Chur homies

As far as I know those are decent components since they're pro series
If its just the compenents running of the amp it won't be huge. Maybe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-152026307.htm
Though if your running thsoe other speakers of it you'll want a bigger 4 chan
. We have installer services next door from Repco North shore - uh wouldnt go there myself though lol. Further up Wairau Rd nearish trade parts is a car audio place, could try there - Or do it yourself

If Pioneer is your gig, then rock it.

Given the RRP of those, there are other options I would look at. You could get a nice set of handmade German Rainbows, Swedish DLS, or American Atomic. I haven't heard the Pioneers, but I'd be looking at the other options before dishing that kind of dosh.

An amp is an amp really. Stick to the mainstream brands, and away from the cheap Chinese shit on Trade Me and you will be greatly rewarded. An amp doesn't influence the sound as much as the speakers, so rather than buy a dearer amp, put that money towards front speakers.

For the Pioneer set, look at an amp around the 60-80wrms per channel range.

I'll also send you a PM.

I have heard good things about those speakers, but in saying that. I have heard better things about Speakers such as:
DLS B6A
Rainbow SLC265
Atomic 2-ways (cant remember model number)

All are around the $300rrp mark
Chuck 100rms at them and they will love it and sound great :!:

Justify this statement Horses for courses.

Back to that amp linked above, it is a parallel imported item. Just be aware that it may be more difficult to settle a warranty claim than if you bought an item through the NZ distribution chain (also has a longer warranty period).

Would make a good component amp

I can't speak for other Installer Services, but I would have to question some of the install techniques of the local one... such as only using two screws per speaker...

Hit this guy up about install.

That's easy, flick the 6x9

With a decent set of amp'ed components in the front, I doubt you'll need them anyways.

the Rainbow iPaul amps aren't cheap, but are awesome quality. they should be able to set you up with some really nice speakers for around $3-400 too, and you won't even need rears

^ I agree, get some decent fronts (Rainbow SLX 265 or SLX Deluxe or CSX 265) they range from $300-$450ish and a decent amp with about 100wrms at 4ohm and you wont ever look back.
Would be able to chuck the back speakers out because you wont need them at all.

If you want a bit of mid bass I and you want to stay with Rainbox go for the CSX 265, if your not fussed about brand go for some DLS of about the same price.
DLS also do good amps

I havnt heard the atomic speakers but they aparently compete well with DLS and also have great amps

The Rainbow SLC265 (Soundline) would be my choice at that price. They sit above the SLX and CSX (both Dreamline).

Go the DLS or Atomic if you like music that hits heavier. Rainbow are known for being crisper.

Rainbow iPaul amps are sex too! The logos light up blue at night also. Sample:

Since nobody has asked, what music do you listen to?

Re: Components/Amp/Installers

have you had a chat to the guys at Pauls about front comps yet?
i'd hit a set of comps, an amp and some sound deadening before lookin at a sub. of course if you're just after fast, hard hitting bass, then yeah, a 10 in a nice ported box will be what you're after

what kind of budget are you looking at too? you're probably looking at around $1k for either fronts or a sub, with an appropriate amp as well

Re: Components/Amp/Installers

personally i wouldn't run anything off the headunit. for the price you can pick up good amps secondhand (NZ ICE Magazine is a perfect place to start), its always gonna be worth it (ie <$100)
i may even have something lying around at home that'd suit you, PM me

as for speakers, again, talk to Pauls, as i think you can get entry level DLS/Rainbow/Atomic for around $2-300, or again, go secondhand (fr3ek and Trivium both had some really nice DLS comps for sale recently)

I am running some DLS B6A off my headunit right now, they sounds pretty good.
Although the difference from running them off a amp is night and day.

If your going to be spending anymore that $150 on a set of speakers then to make the most of your money you will need an amp.

I cant see why people wont run a small 2chan amp when their car is a street/track car.
Can hide it under the seat, weighs so little that you wont even notice a difference on the track.
If it was a professional race car, with a pro driver then sure. But its not is it?

If it weight really means a lot, then it only takes a couple mins to whip the amp out at the track

Just my 2c

Re: Components/Amp/Installers

mithere:

as grandell said, sort the components and amp first. Get a four channel amp so the rears can be used on your 6x9 now, and maybe a sub later.

Hands down, sub is the best option as niether the components or 6x9 are capable of playing sub bass tones properly... that doesn't mean blow your doors off, just the depth of notes as they should be.

Given the choice of 6x9 or a sub of the same value, I'd take the sub. It is just there to fill the bottom of the notes. Even a cheapy $100-200 sub would do the job... though the Rainbow components mentioned with the 10" Rainbow Hammer sub makes a mean punchy combo to suit your tastes. The Hammer only needs a tiny box too.

Horny_Devil:

I wouldn't run off the head unit... but, look for something with high sensitivity so you get good volume off the power you have. Actually you may find two-way co-axials will sound better than components off the head unit (generally they require less power). Some of the DLS two-way co-axials have a nicer external crossover than normal. They could be a good option to look at.

I'm actually gonna be selling my car with the 6x9s soon sooo... I had a talk to Chris at Paul's Audio and he said Rainbow SLX265 deluxes for about $350... I'm gonna be getting a Caldina so I want two sets of the above speakers, one in the front doors and one in the back... And I guess it looks like the Rainbow Hammer sub in a good box. To run the above set-up I will basically need 6 channels of amp, right?
How much will it cost to get this stuff installed professionally? Do they always make it look real pretty or what? I don't want anything (amp/sub install) to be so delicate in the boot/take up too much space....

Ta ta

Re: Components/Amp/Installers

You wont need those speakers for the back, stock speakers or none at all will be fine.

Dont sit in the back so dont need to spend big $$ on speakers for it.

Would need a 4 channel amp, only amp the fronts and get a 2+2 dvc sub and run it in parallel so the amp has a 4ohm load
