16 or 18?

Hey all

I've got abit of ponder going...

I've recently gotten an eh9 civic in pretty good nick for 1500$ wof easy once breaks are done, and it currently has a d16a, but you know...

and b18c's have this rep of being excellent engines and so i went and priced it up and its gnna cost me about 1950$ for standard edition and 5.5k for type R

then... I've recently found a b16a engine with conversion kit for 950$..

im just wondering, whats the better bet? fork out the 2-5.5k for the typeR 18
or get the 16?
cheers
Ignorant Civic guy

Re: 16 or 18?

buy my b16a and throw a manual gear box on it, should come with engine mounts too as i dont think i need them and take my lom off me it should just be plug and play then and will cost you less than $950

it will also come with standard headers just needs crank pulley

Re: 16 or 18?

b18c if you want to whip major ass. Or just b16a for a bit more added power over what you have now.

Or be insane and get a h22a.

Re: 16 or 18?

i wouldnt bother with b16a.. go b18c man.. trust me you will love the extra torque (as thats what makes the d16a fun to drive.. )

so with the b18c has the torque and the power..

Re: 16 or 18?

sorry for stealing the thread......
just like ZzZz said..what bout b18c, b18cr??ofcourse b18cr is going to be better but was wondering if the gas consumption of them are the same saying they are both 1.8 litres..

and is forking out the extra 4k for the r going to be worth every cent???is the difference worth 4k?

or is it that the type r has better parts?

Re: 16 or 18?

I am running B18CR in my EG6 with 4.7 FD. No regret.
Fat torque and plenty of rev to go.

Re: 16 or 18?

how much would a basica turbo setup cost? running stock internals, compared to a fully forged beast

like Air2There said too, H22 conversion is an option too, not sure how much conversion kits are, but engines are cheaper

Re: 16 or 18?

cost of a turbo setup has been gone over again and again.. and again..

but research has shown that it could be done reasonably (thats NOT perfectly) for 2.5g's... but im gunna get pwned for saying that so yea forget the turbo thing

Re: 16 or 18?

I have a b18cr conversion sitting here

Imo no point going to the effort of converting to b16 as egs come in that form already (eg6/9 sir) so may as well pay that little extra and go b18c atleast.

H22a is an option, plentiful cheap motors.. and getting common these days, power and torque!

Re: 16 or 18?

I personally wouldnt bother with anything.

Its your first car, so just leave it as is for a couple years while you get experiance.
Then buy something with the conversion already done if your not mechanically minded.
Will work out much cheaper

Re: 16 or 18?

for the same money as a typeR conversion you could do an H2B, which is an H22a and a b-series gearbox mated together via an ingenius adaptor plate. very rare conversion in NZ.

just a thought.
