missus' eti to vti build

this is here just for slight interest

night we went up and picked it up

car was meant to be a d16z6 eg however it turned out to be an eti, vtec-e The Vtec-e runs on 12valves until it hits vtec which you dont even hear kick in, and once it hits vtec it then runs on 16valves. the revs are weird it sits on 2 thousand revs at 100km/h vtec kicks in at 2500rpm engine code is a d15b (same as the vti) and runs at a glorious 90HP - we were slutted when we got back and searched up eti

lowered car a little

and swapped mags off a crx i had at the time

got a duckbill spoiler for it

(photoshopped tints ftw)
talked to a local wrecker and got a good deal sorted for a new heart, another d15b but this time out of a vti, also got them to do the swap
$600 later drove out with it done

all they did to swap it over was rip out old engine put new engine in and swap ecus (po7 -> po8) everything was plug and play

did have a few issues due to them swapping engine looms over (back to the eti one) got them to swap that back as the eti runs a 5wire o2 plug and the vti runs a 1wire

put some 4-2-1's on aswell asfull 2 & 1/4 exhaust has an extra resonator so not as loud as it was, seats dont vibrate now yay

engine bay finally got cleaned as well as a new intake + pod + struty

(blue wire is vtec solenoid)

and chucked some DC1 seats in aswell

random photos

thanks to all those that helped out

Re: missus' eti to vti build

nice, a friend of mine converted his Vtec e D15b to Vti, just by changing the head and intake manifold and plugging in the Vti ecu. was a lazy thing tho, before the swap there was no real pop to vtec, and after the swap it popped vtec and revved well but the compression was hell low because of his pistons in the vtec e block, even tho he planed the head a bit. would be good for boost

Re: missus' eti to vti build

yea we did look at doing that mini-me conversion but had good prices and availability to parts we needed and all up including engine + gearbox + ecu + removal and install it costed $600 so was happy with that

Re: missus' eti to vti build

Man I would love a vtec-e EG instead of my EG6 auto, it uses too much gas around town to what I really want from a small car.

I would swap +cash my way for one of those

Nice swap, sort that random wire going right across the engine bay, it doesn't have to be like that

Re: missus' eti to vti build

ha thats the vtec solenoid wire some reason it didnt go good till i ran a wire from the ecu to it directly have re-routed it now tho so not so in ya face goes thru the firewall under the battery now

the eti was pretty bad to drive the engine was filled with alot of oil 7-8litres? it filled the dip stick right up anyway either that or it had had a big life and was tired

Re: missus' eti to vti build

haha 7-8 litres!!

someone must have filled the oil until they could see it in the head, thinking it was empty! (seen that done before)

yeh B16A2 auto gets maybe 120-140km MAX around town with nanna driving on around 14-15 litres.
so about 9-10.5km per L. Not that great for a 1600cc auto. Fully serviced too, everything new on it that would make it use less gas.

Re: missus' eti to vti build

Decided to get things flowing again on this car as when they get boring it usually means time to modify or sell and since plans all along have been to modify, modify it is!

so got a gauge cluster surround in before -> after

next bit is a PITA to do

yay all done

got me one for my project eg aswell except il be sporting a different dash

next on the list is probably customise the gauge faceplates and move that redline up a bit

and fix the exhaust 4 tickets later

Dumb question, but how did you get the trip reset button thing out?

Cheers
