D15B to B16A Loom?????

I have put a B16A into my EG civic hatch (previously D15B), and was wondering DO I HAVE TO use the B16A loom? Everything seems to plug in OK, except there is no plug for the MAP sensor???? Is it possible for an auto electrician to wire one in? Or is there no way you can use the D15B loom. Just wondering, cos I know it will be a mission to put the other loom in (something I'm NOT looking forward to!!!!!! )

I'm no expert, but I wouldnt think it'd be possible, if swapping from a D-Series motor to a B-Series motor.

MRVTEC - yes it was a vtec engine.
I found some info on www.iccracing.com/5gtech.html saying that you can use the original loom, but certain wires must be hard wired into it from the engine. It has diagrams and sh*t, but I'm not exactly sure what to do though.... and I dont wanna fu*k anything up!!! Would a general auto electrician know whats up? or is this better left to someone who KNOWS Hondas? Looks like there is still some hope...... I dont wanna have to install the other loom!!!!!!!

yes I already knew you could use the standard loom even if it wasnt a vtec but that requires a few more wires!

if you have diagrams etc then its as easy as wiring up a stereo!

map sensor

Your D15B VTEC would have had a map sensor, they are mounted directly on top of the plenum chamber by the throttle (no vacuum hose) the plugs are the same I think.

B16A has a vaccum hose going to the map sensor which has a point where a plug goes into it. My D15B loom doesnt have the plug which goes into it! Everything else seems to match up though. I would attempt to wire it up myself, but I'm a bit confused with this whole wiring thing!!! The info I got from iccracing.com says to check for 6 wires and the map sensor isnt mentioned, so I need to know where to wire this into on the ECU, it would be good if someone knew, cos my other option is to strip the B16A loom that I have and follow the wires!!!.
Another wire my loom doesnt have (that the B16A does have) is the red/blue knock sensor wire... I know which pin on the ECU to run it from, but where (on the engine side) is the knock sensor???? ( ops: excuse my ignorrance ops: )

Does anyone know of a website that has ALL the ECU pinouts for a B16A?

Your D15B map senor is probably mounted on your throttle body therefore doesnt require the vacum pipe the plug on your loom should be the same as the one on the B16A loom!

The Knock sensor is on the back of the engine under the intake manifold

By the way what are you doing with your D15B engine and gearbox??????

Hey if you have any questions just ask I can probably help

Well, I did it!!!! Thought I may as well attempt the wiring myself. After spending nearly all of Saturday afternoon hooking everything up, adding wires etc etc.. I turned the key and.......... its all sweet!!!!! car is running mint as
Question: if the oxygen sensor (I think thats what it is, coming from the exhaust - 2 blk wires and 1 green, 1 white)) wasnt connected, would this cause the check engine light to come on???? Cos these wires were cut when I got the engine, and the guy that dropped the engine in for me forgot to re-connect them. The "check engine" light is on all the time the engine is running. Everything seems to work fine though, so I am hoping its just the oxygen sensor. I am gonna connect them after work today, but I thought I'd just check to see if it could be anything else....

Congratulations LALA !!

It sounds to me like its the o2 sensor causing your engine check light - just wire 'em back up and you should be sitting pretty.

Any other suggestions anyone? Is there a way of checking the engine problem codes??? cos on my WRX u just gotta plug in 2 plugs under the dash and the light flashes a certain amount of times depending on whats wrong. I dont know what else could be the problem cos the car runs sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet as!!! BUT it is a little concerning with that light on all the time

peel the passenger footwell carpet back to expose the ecu, then turn the car on, engine light comes on, and the little red light int he ecu with flash, short and long pulses....which = code....someone will post soon i spose with how to read the flashes and dechiper the code

then look the code up in a manual, or ask someone on the board

UMMMMMMM...... where exactly is the light on the ECU????? I couldnt see one.
Do you have to remove the cover that holds the ECU in to expose this light????

hmm correct me if I am wrong, but on the EG civics the ECU is on the left wall of the passenger footwell, and unlike the EF's you don't need to pull up the carpet.
There is a small slit in the carpet just below the clip for where the flare was, look though there, there is a small clear window, turn you ignition key to "On" and it will flash the code.

YEP, the ECU is in the passenger footwell, and there is a slit in the carpet, BUT there is no clear window or flashing light on the ECU, its just the gold metal cover.

Oh well... F**K IT!!! I just took the check engine light bulb out cos it was annoying me - outta sight, outta mind... ha ha ha (though probably not the best thing to do ). BUT, I drove the car to Auckland and back with NO problems at all, ran sweet the whole trip .
But it would be appreciated if someone could hook me up with the location of this engine problem code LED on the ECU (I am pretty sure it doesnt have one, I even unscrewed the ECU cover! and couldnt see no LED).
Is there any other way of finding out why the check engine light is on all the time????????

LALA, there is no check light on th ECU, its in the dash with your speedo........... if you have wired it up right your check light on your dash will light up when you have a problem, then you check the code by jumping a connector under your glovebox here is some more info on it
http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/06.html

codes for check light
http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/05.html

if your check light is on, your car will be running in safe mode

i just finished wiring my EK B18c and this info helped me alot
