Rusty shaft!

hey guys have oppurtunity to purchase a set of pretty-good-condition-looking teins for my s15, only problem is that there is a small patch of surface rust on the shaft about 30mm from the bottom, size about 10mm diameter..is this a no go or should it be all good?any help apreciated!

If it looks slightly dodgy and you are worried about it, borrow the shock and take it for a quick trip to autolign and get the pro's to give you an opinion.

its probably surface rust just use a scotch brite and some oil and lightly scrub it off

If it's anything more than light surface rust, I'd say forget it. (Assuming you mean the polished metal upper shaft, not the shock body itself). Any roughness on the shaft will wear at the seals, and your shock will leak.

Surface rust on the shock body itself isn't much to worry about, but may indicate the age of the shocks, keep that in mind when negotiating price. Just scuff down and repaint if it's a problem.

Rusty shaft, I'd be seeing your doctor...condom musn't be sealed properly

I had a bit of surface rust on my teins in my WRX, gave them a good clean with some Jiff and they were sweet. If your talking about the inside bit then I'd be really worried

yeh its the inside bit unfortunately, anyone have ideas on price for replacement inner shaft,still waiting for the guy to take it out of his car so i can have a decent look..haha i knew someone would think something nasty of this thread:p
