Clunking sound from LF shock (fork moving around)

When ever I brake the front left side makes a clunk sound, Iv had a look and found out its the top of the fork that connects to the shock. Iv done it up as tight as I can but it still has 5mm up and down play in it. When I stand on the hub and jump I can make it make the sound.

What would you guys reckon it is?

The forks stuffed out or the bolts just wasted.

is there anything I can do to remove that 5mm play like wrap some Teflon tape around the shock so that the fork holds on more.

Its still way to tight to be able to pull it down more them 5mm so its not that much of a hazard just something annoying at this stage that I want to get fixed before it becomes a hazard.

Hope my description makes scene lol.
Thanks

DA Integra? I think you may have a DC or EG fork on there. Get a DA or EF one and try it, and it is a hazard.

It has DA forks, I havnt changed anything on that side, Started happening after I changed the gearbox and I didnt even have to touch that side of the car.

Ill guess ill just try some more forks from work.

Yeah I wondered after I posted it, but the only way it can do that is if there's no part of the bolt running through the notch in the shock. Maybe the bolt's sheared or worn but yeah, you don't want it jumping out of there

remove the fork and check the shock for damage or unless the fork isnt clamping properly. try backing the bolt right off and then reitghten it again

Chucked a nut on the back of the bolt and it seems to be working now, How legal is that??

Can't really see it being illegal if it's doing the job and clamping the fork, definitely more mechanically sound than having the bolt wandering around

Re: Clunking sound from LF shock (fork moving around)

Hmm, that could be what's happening in my EK.. a few weeks ago it developed a clunk from the front left, after I'd had it jacked up to mess with something non suspension related. Had a good look around to find the source but couldn't see anything obviously amiss, I put it down to a dying shock so gave up, as they're being replaced soon. Will give the shock fork a look when I get the chance/when it stops raining.
