EK brakes

Found out recently the rear rotors in my EK4 are close to minimum thickness (8.4mm) which is probably too thin to survive another machining. Just bought a new set of pads, so I'm wanting to replace the rotors before I put the new pads on, and I'm weighing up my options.

Choices so far are:

OEM
Mugen slotted (about $320 a pair from Honda, so actually cheaper than OEM I think)
Znoelli slotted

Any other suggestions? Anyone tried Mugen or Znoelli and can comment? What setups do others have on their EK?

I remember reading a while back that it's common for people to swap prelude rotors/calipers onto the EK chassis - or is that just for the fronts (and are they a direct bolt on)? This could be an option, as the factory rears are looking pretty tiny under 16" rims.

Haven't measured the front rotors yet but I may replace them at the same time (will probably have to if I go for slotted rear)

Any help/suggestions appreciated, thanks

Re: EK brakes

I scored some Znoelli slotted for a steal so will be trying them once my car is back together.

Mugen slotted for that kind of price sounds pretty good!

Doing much track work? If not a decent set of pads is all you'll need with any rotors you choose. Otherwise sky's the limit!

Re: EK brakes

You can put 98 spec ITR rear calipars on the back of the EK. They MAY be the same as Prelude rears but who knows. And to be honest you'd probably want to the Prelude brake setup on the front at the same time to keep the balance all good. I've read that when you do the Prelude setup on the front you're supposed to do the same on the rear to keep the bias/balance all good.

I'm looking into doing all this soon.

Re: EK brakes

Hmm, to be honest I think I'll just go for the Mugen rotors front and rear, and keep the same calipers. It stops fairly well already on OEM rotors with decent pads, and it probably won't see the track very often.

Out of curiosity though, are there any larger discs I could swap on that are 4 stud? Really wouldn't want to have to buy new rims as well.

Re: EK brakes

while on this topic, I have an EK3 Civic that has discs at the front and drums at the rear. Im wanting to change it and thought might as well go with the ITR 96 spec package. Right now, I have got ITR rear hubs, LCA, discs, calipers, handbrake cable, hoses, etc so all sorted for the rear. Now for the front, what exactly do I need to do the conversion? I will need discs, hubs, calipers, proportioning valve. Anything else Im missing on? What about the driveshafts? thanks alot

i dont know about the driveshafts, but you will need:
front hubs/uprights
discs
calipers
you dont really need the prop valve, but i would probly do it to be safe.

Re: EK brakes

You might be able to get away without the trailing arms, but it just makes the overall swap easier..check out the Honda-Tech forums for more info

Re: EK brakes

umm, the trailing arm should bolt right onto the existing LCA you have now without any problems.
