Rain Tyres, thought opinions! no spam plz

well its winter, and i want to live this year... and the ae needs new tyres
the rear of mine does NOT hold on in anything remotly wet.. and the front suffers understeer when pushed(ie ruapuna)

and the last thing i want to do is hit a puddle and aqua plain off the road...

curently on the rear...running 1x toyo T1s with 1.5 mm thread, and the other is a grid III 2mm

front is 1x Pirrelli sumthing rather. and 1x direzza dz101

this setup is shithouse obviously with the 4x different tyres...

sizes 205/50/15

recomendations...

We have Bridgestone RE001 on two of our cars. And they hold great in the wet. By far one of the best tyres I have driven on in the wet. Not sure if they make a 205-50-15 tho.

i hav eagle f1 on ek, and re001 on eg.

f1 win on wet and dry grip. but re001 win on steering response, wet grip is also very impressive for the money.

i would go for re001 again with no doubt. or wait for the new eagle f1 to come out.

if you're feeling rich, Pirelli P-zero

had them on the Jag, and they were sex in the wet. you could actually feel it cutting through puddles and gripping instead of aquaplaning

not so good on ice though ops:

and they're VERY expensive... was looking at replacing mine with Toyo T1R's... apparently ~80% as good, for ~30% of the price

I had these on the ITR at the Eurosport trackday last year, which as Ian will know was kind of damp I was pretty impressed with how well they hung on in the wet...

eagle F1 are awesome wets, even in the dry! and they are hard compound so take ages to wear even with a beating around the track

I would have to say the Eagle F1's as well. Awesome in the wet and even better in the dry. I have them on my Euro at the mo and decided to get them cause I drive a lot and wanted something that was good in all conditions and longer wearing.

i found t1R's wore way too fast for my liking but had reasonable grip.

my re001's in 205 50 15 are quite nice in the rear no issues with grip in the wet at the moment but they around $220 a tyre.. 8O

t1rs ive found have too much sidewall flex in the 50series, and squeel'd like a mofo in the K in the dry

may not be much of an issue once streched onto 8" rim tho so hmm

the eagle f1 as mentioned is a great wet tyre but the problem is still finding german ones.....not many if any....also the eagle wears like shit...the RE001 is alegedly compareable in the wet but suffers due to the fact it is assymetric(sp)

cant be flipped on the rim to aleiviate camber wear etc.

I dont think the t1r really slots into the same catagory as the two above mentioned tyres.....

what size will you go in the rear?

could you do 225's all round? 80mm of tread overall has gotta help somewhat is grip.

We now have RE001 on two of our cars as I refused to buy the Made in China F1s. The Re001 isn't as good as the F1 in the wet, but is an insane tyre on dry roads. And it does wear faster.

Goodyear had a good tyre in the F1, but have stuffed up by selling inferior Chinese made product in NZ. And how come the Goodyear is only $25 less than the Made in Japan RE001?

I have no trouble with 225/45/17 China made Eagle F1 on 220rwkw. But now I have 255/40/17 German made Eagle F1 on 250rwkw and still have no traction problem. I don't know why the china made should be inferior? Most of our stuff are made in China anyway, like Nike, motherboards, monitors, TV, etc. There's always different grade of China made stuff of course and you get what you pay for.
