Uncaptiveness =)

Hey guys out there with adjustables,

my teins in the back of my 5th gen bb6 prelude are wound down as low as they go... Now, they still got the keepers in. thing is jack up the car n try wobble the springs and they are definately seem to be REALLY captive. Now if I take those keepers out, obviously will go lower, but chances of being uncaptive? Need help as want to go lower but still captive.

pic of approx height at the moment:

thanks

Why go lower? That looks mint as it is! Personally I think lower will look worse...

if you take the rear keepers out, the car will definatly sit lower. however the springs will not be captive and may give you an uncomfy ride

That would achieve nothing unless he increased the rolling radius, which would make the wheels tuck further under the guard, but it'd also raise the car, screw the handling and the speedo would read wrong

Bigger wheels will make the wheels look more in the gaurd but will make the car overall (body) high

You can always get your shocks shortend if your in Auckland ADL in Mt roskil do them at $45incl per shock just take the shock and the spring and they will shorten it to suite.

^?

Yeah it does. Shortening the shock will make captive a shorter spring.

yeah which it must be for it not to be captive other wise the shock would "stroke down" as far as the spring would let it.

ahhh read the top post he hasnt done it yet he just wants to know if it will still be captive.

u need to take them out and try as i doubt noone will know. if u do take them out and find its uncaptive, then do what hayce was saying and get the shocks shortened.

wayne u dont need to go any lower anyways

thats going from 19's to 20's no extra suspension mods and just using the correct upsize tyre

Wayne, your car's height is nice just the way it is, if you lower the back it'll just look wierd or some south auckland car.

But up to u

thats because the profile of the tyre (the 50 and then 55) is a percentage of the tyres width........

the 195/55/15 should be about 60mm taller than the 195/50/15
give or take a few mm dependant on the manufacturer....
therefore raising your car by half that amount !!!
had you used a tyre for example....215/45/15 (yes i know that is a non existant tyre size) then it would have sat at the same height......

Yea i know that, just telling my story. I thought it would raise it more like 1cm. My bad calculations, but then i did close the gap between the tyre and my guards.

Still..i regret that and i should have got 205/50/15
