| New springs Ok i'm a bit of a newb when it comes to suspension so I need some help. Recently I bought some Tanabe progressive rate springs for my DC2 Type R. I went to see my mate who installs springs, and he said to install the springs he'd also need to replace my shocks which will cost $600 give or take. I went to get a second opinion from another guy who said he could machine my current shocks for $40 and they'd be sweet. Then I went to get a 3rd opinion from a guy who said I could install the springs without touching the shocks. So I have 3 opinions; 1. New shocks (expensive!) 2. Machine current shocks (cheap, but how effective?) 3. Leave the shocks alone and just install the springs Which one of these opinions is correct? Cheers guys. |

Location: North Shore City | I've heard you need to shorten your shocks when installing lowering springs on Type-R's. Shouldn't need to replace them completely ![]()

Location: Hamilton | Cant say if you need to shorten your struts but normally speaking you dont need to touch them when chaning springs unless you want to match them up or theyre fucked. If you need them shortened try P&H suspension. I was going to get my old cars struts shortened there (think it was ~$300 for 4??, its been a while). I ended up getting a mate to do it. Theres a bit to it as they have to turn the spare (chrome bit of the shock) down and rethread it. |

| Team NZH: Mod 8,000rpm (B Series Redline!) | We have lowered I think 5 ITR's now all with Nuespeed springs and none have needed shocks shortening. Its ideal to replace the shocks but you don't have to.

Location: Christchurch | Vito what Marke said above Some models DO req shortening shocks if you are going to fit superlow springs in with OEM shocks. DA Integras are like this in the back, otherwise when the WOF guys jack your car up your springs dont stay captive & they fail you on a WOF. Type R's have shorter shocks as OEM equipment anyhow as they are lower from the factory than any other DC2 Integra. As you said - check your shocks out & if they are still firm & not leaking just use those straight with your springs without modification. Good luck with it all - be careful when using the spring compressor to change over the springs dude!! 8)
