195s on 7inch wide rims

hey all, i have some new/2nd hand wheels that i just got and they seem to rub like crazy everytime i go over a bump!

the tyre size on the wheels are 205/50/16.

would 195/45/16 be okay on 7inch wide rims? would it stop the rubbing? how well does guard rolling help?

could it be the offset? not sure what the offset is but whats the optimum offset for an EG with 7inch wide rims.. please help, i really don't want to buy new tyres if it aint gona solve my rubbing problem

cheers -Danny

Perfect offsent should be +45 I do believe. You could put smaller tyres on they should fit alright..

EG Civic with 205/50R16 tyres rubbing

You may well have to buy a both a different set of wheels.
Depending on the offset which is usually printed or stamped on the inside of the wheel.
But definitely your 205/50R16 tyres (Overall Diameter=609mm*) are far too tall for an EG Civic of any model grade.

If your EG is DOHC VTEC, or hybrid, then 215/45R16 (OD=598mm) is the ideal size.
If not DOHC VTEC, then you should seek out 205/40R16 (OD=571mm)

195/45R16 (OD=583mm) is not a good choice as its Load Index is generally lower than those listed listed on your EG's tyre placard.
Which need to be at least equalled, or exceeded, when plus sizing.

* OD dimensions from Toyo NZ

yep 195 fine on 7 inch rim check your o/e tyre up against your upsize on the following link.....this will mean you get the correct upsize without upsetting your speedo etc......

+42 is the correct offset for EG rims.

it handles awesome, with the wider tyres at the front it gets better traction than when i had 195's all round..

my back does slide out when goin hard round corners, cos i have shit tyres on the rear ops:

some of the hondas on BMI videos run that sty, so it must be good for something

well i used run 205 50 15 all round on my old EG and i must say its ALOT better than having the 195 55 15's on.. the car just seems more stable (or maybe its just me)
