a little story about my cheep family

heres how the story goes

my brother and my cousin got a $850 DA8 integra with vtec and had no wof and reg. they put in a mugen chip and went to get a wof and failed due to the undersde of the chassis by the door where side skirts would go was dented. so they got a whole lot of bog and boged it up and got the wof then they got a steal intake. the intake costed 90.

they didnt have any hoses to connect up the hose from the cam cover so they used a piece of yellow garden hose and it really looks the part. then they got an exahust system from the muffler back and got a tip welded on costed 350.

when driving it in wellington on a saturday night one of the supports cam loose and it started to hang low and they lost the rubber bit so couldnt fix it then they decided to see if they could make the muffler scrap when they went over bumps etc just for kicks. they managed to stcrach the tip and they took it to pit stop where they got the muffler done and they offered to redo the complete job again for free. they decided no to and just get the muffler back up.

then recently they saw some $1 reserve headders for sale on trade me they started bidding when it was around $60 and set a max that they would pay to $250. they must have been dreaming if they thought if they were going to win. in the end the headders went for 340.

they were pretty pissed that they didnt win so they tought stuff it then we'll just make it turbo. they talked about it etc and my cousin claims he can turbo it for under a grand.

they want to just slap on a turbo with intercooler and keep stock comp and internals. for the manafold they want to get one made.

my question is can they do it and will it run?
any suggestions on which turbo would help because they are unsure of what to use at the moment.
and can someone give them a real estimate of what they are going to do gonna cost them?

any help is appreciated

best idea is to try a website like www.homemadeturbo.com and that will give you a fair guide to turbo'in for next to nothing, but remember the cheap-fast-reliable model... (pick 2), hope this helps

Sounds like an interesting conversion. asking for reliability problems there though, dont know how long it'll survive without proper tuning and standard internals if you decide to boost it hard

This thread is kool. You get a gold star for your story.

If your mate reckins he can turbo it for under a grand then tell him to go for it. By the sounds of things they dont give a shit about the car or doing things properly.

Here is an update on the litte cheap ass family story:
Backround: I Being the cheap cousin saw a civic ferrio turbo'd runing 5 psi of boost looked under the hood and saw the whore'st job ever and thought to my self i can do better then that! so i embarked on finding the turbo, intercooler etc i had it all priced out would of come up under a grand (lots of DIY) then i lost interest in the project for a while. When we came back to it we decide to stay NA list of mods incl:

Pod

Intake Pipe

Mugen Chip (4500rpm vtec, 9500rpm cut out, unlimited speed)

2.25 exhaust all way though (pit stop did the muffler and it was thier fault it fell off i tell you )

Obx 4,2,1 headers

Air Con Removed

Ferodo Brake pads, DOT 5 brake fluid

(Carbon firber light weight bog and a lot of it )

195/65/15 slick tyres (no tread)

That was the extent of the tuning didn't go turbo figured it wasn't worth it the car having done 230k's and im pretty sure it would of worked.

The car is now sold to some guy who can't drive a manual.

Brought a paddle clutch but the car is sold so im in need of a buyer for the clutch: http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/a...sp?id=23991532

PS: love your post 1ab_eg9 ( Bro STFU

1. If your gonna be serious about something as stupid as this, my advice would be not to post.
2. Use the name u signed in with the first time, multipile accounts eat the gay.
3. The only place this topic needs to be stickied is here
