Location: Auckland | Re: Toda vtec killer camshafts!!! ???? how does vtec engagement determine when the cam will stop making power?? sure in a huge generalization a less agressive lobe will not make power higher in the rpms compared to a more agressive lobe... but that has nothing to do with engagement point but How on earth the point in the rev range at which a tiny pin engages a 3rd rocker arm to use a larger lobe has an actual effect on the lobes ability to make power is beyond me?? if you research into b series you will see the valves have a large angle, ie they face towards each other considerably, not straight down, if you then take into account the position and size of the rocer arms, youll learn that when using a lobe with huge lift, the angles at which the rocker arms move to is extreme, minmising contact patch and causing lots of unusual wear and tear, plus the hydraulic dampers beneath the vtec arm that are there to stabilize it while its not in use, limit their movement, inturn limiting the amount of lift you can run in the cam - and if you goin to have a 3rd rocer arm that is unused for a duration of the rpms , it needs to be stabilized with a dampener a not to vibrate and clank about will nille... so it makes sense to eliminate these hydraulic dampeners and enable a larger lift, by removing the vtec rocker arm, if you look at the rocker arms provided by toda, they are different to oem arm, and have extra provision for the cams large lobe and have altered the geometry to achieve a rocker arm more suited to its intended use - high lift, and just as jase said your removing extra weight from the rotating assembly, decreasing parasitic loss
