Jeez ya could have at least waited a bit longer so those of us who got one last time could do a few more mods and get a cheap re-tune!
I'm really happy with mine, whould recomed it to anyone who's not planning any big upgrades in the near future.

Still no good to those of us with an OBD-II ECU though.

Matty, I'm going to be using a Greddy e-Manage for my boosted application, but they work equally well on N/A cars.
It's a piggy back for the ODB-II ECU.
Im using it as I dont want to lose any of my ODB-II features (torque transfer system etc) along with the optional harnesses (should be compulsary as they give you soo much more control over ignition and fuel delivery).

or you could just do an ECU swap

Hey
OBDII, Hondata will come to the party a bit with us, so the hondata system comes in cheaper than would get in the states.
They have exchange modded ECU waiting

Thanks

Yeah, that's covered both my options - either Hondata or replacement ECU. They'll both cost around the same but if I get a Power FC then I'll be able to take it with me when I change cars.

Decisions decisions...

I got a quote for about $2k for unit (incl. install) from Steve at Gizzmo, then tuning on top of that.

It's on hold for the moment though until I have it out with my insurance company, and by the time I've sorted that out I'll probably have to wait until after my wedding. And I've got to get hold of the cams etc as well before getting it all installed...

Sigh...

Yeah I haven't really been looking into Links - hell, I only just decided to stay NA recently. I'm so indecisive. I think. Yeah...

Might have to have a look. Got a URL?

www.link-electro.co.nz

give evan a buz man, 07 571 2297

he can give ya a good run down on the link,

but basically he has a good program, already set on the comp, he loads that up, and then fine tunes the odd bits to make it perfect..

just a question matty, are you absolutely positively 100% sure that the apexi powerFC is transferable between different cars?

i've looked at it recently and from what i can tell they are application specific, eg. one designed for a S14 Q will not work on a S14 K, and one designed for a S14 K will not work on a facelife S14K etc.

there's a good writeup in the new Pcar mag on FMUs if you're interested which mentions the motec

Remember when choosing your system you get what you pay for, the links are cheap, and you will get a lot of different opinions of them not all positive.
Microtech is similar price but is a faster computer so maybe worth a look.

Or M4 motec not too expensive now

The exact words from Steve were "The power FC offers the best long term benefits as it is the most flexible, and is fully tunable. It also give you the benefit of if you wish to sell the car you can remove the apexi and refit the factory item in a matter of minutes maybe onsell the apexi or reuse."

...which looking at it again means I could use it again on another car, but I didn't stop to think maybe it'd only be good on another OBDII Honda or something (d'oh!).

If it could be used on another OBDII Honda it'd be worth it as I could put it on my NSX, but if it's more limited then I may go with Hondata. Either way, I've got a while to decide as State STILL haven't replied to me after 3 weeks.

i'm glad that i could be of some help. now it may seem that i'm hondata biased, but a hondata unit can be removed and reinstalled into another honda just the same as a powerFC can. while putting the default settings for the original car back to normal.

however, the motec is truly compatible across the range, so you might want to rethink that option as well if you're gonna change cars. likewise a hondata does have its limits, i think you have to get a specific one for K series engines.

I know this may be a little bit OT, but how much do the decent Motec ECU's go for nowadays..?

Thanks 8)

Not that i am trying to bust your fun or thread, but you might want to check out this LTSA website link regarding WOF with turboed and chipped vehicals before jumping in boots and all.

I just re-read it and it seams to only apply to turboed vehicals, though you should read and make up your own minds first

if any car gains 20% more power it suposed to have a cert. But never heard of it being an issue.

Motec system as an Entry level is around $2900 for an M4

How are they gonna know that you have gained 20% in power? Put you on the vehicle testing station dyno?

They dyno it when you go for a cert. They would have a hard time picking on a N/A car unless it has nasty cams.
