dealing with other drivers insurance company

just got crashed by a bus.
the driver admitted thats its his fault and left me his details.
I dont have an insurance, so I will need to negotiate with their insurance company about my car.

is there anything I should be careful of when negotiating with their insurance company?

also is there a good panel beating shop in AKL I can go to?
what should I keep an eye on when get the car to be paneled and painted?

thanks for help because I have no experience at all.

totally agree with GR81 you shouldnt drive on the road without insurance its madness, they should make it compulsary to have insurance
but anyway when you negotiate with them just dont be a smart ass cause they tend to give ya the cold shoulder if you try to get them to get things done for you :!:

They went to make third party insurance compulsary a year or 5 back. But they had a referendum on it, and the general public said no... 8O :!:
What were we thinking?

Dear God, don't make insurance compulsory! Do we really want to end up like England? ie. most of our premiums would go through the roof, and anyone under 25 fully insured for under $2000 will become rare. The insurance they pay over there is ludicrous. You can't just give the fat cats at the top of the insurance company a captive market because then they'll just charge whatever they want.

I have third party insurance so if someone else crashes into me I'll be on my own against the insurance company. Or in the one case it has happened, I just had to ge the money out of the guy on my own. After I chased him down he was really good about it.

hahaha yeah that'd be pretty bad... I enquired about insurance for my prelude when I was looking into moving to the UK perminantly.. it was going to be over £3000/year 8O

I fail to see why insurance should be compulsary though... If someone crashes into you and doesnt have insurance, thats why YOU have insurance

I only think third party should be compulsary.
Yes, you have insurance to cover accidents whether you are at fault or not. But what if, for some unforseen random reason your insurance had lapsed (maybe you couldn't afford it.. whatever), you drive a late model *Gosh-aint-she-bewdifool, she-cost-me-a-bomb* car, you got hit by a cheap as chips car with no insurance.. then what happens?
I guess I'm thinking from all perspectives

Thats what im afraid of Woody, and the reason ill always have insurance....

If i stack into a late model rolls royce, im gonna want my insurance company to pay him out... i dont want him coming after my ass with his laywers, and taking me for everything i own, and that probably still wont be enough.....

As for those ppl that dont have insurance, why not?.. is it so if you stack into someone, you can just do a runner on them, and let them chase you?

"I cant get insurance"

rubbish, someone will insure you, look harder, and be willing to pay for it.

some people arnt in a finantial position to afford such insurance , some people are in circumstances that are out of there control were money is just unheard of.

others dont have insurance cause the #$%^& broker that got them insurance couldnt spell there first and last name properly and didnt even tell the insurance company that you wanted the policy when you clearly stated that you wanted the insurance to start then and there <<<< ME !!!!!

im not trying to piss anyone off here but if you cant afford insurance then why do you have a car because how the hell are you going to afford it when you hit someone its logical, common sense i wouldnt even drive to the dairy without insurance its scary as ,when i got my car i only drove 5kms to the nearest branch of my insurance company to do the insurance swap from my old car to my new one  , in todays amount of cars on the road and the amount of crazy drivers there are such as i have had my car soooo close to being hit many times  that its a sad position to even drive, i can remember the days when i was small like 4/5 when it was sorta safe to drive on the road without having some inexperienced dumb ass ramming into you!!!

Why chase them if they do a runner anyway? Take their rego and report it to the police and your insurance company. they can deal with it from there

Agreed. If its so important for you to have a flash as car with rims, lowered and a mad ass stereo system etc, then you should be prepared to pay for that to be covered. The smart thin to do is to get a shiter car and build up a really good insurance record with that, say while your at school or whatever. Unfortunatley peer pressure usually dictates that this isnt the option taken
hondapower - the other guys insurance company is gonna have to pay out no matter what.Ask them for who are their approved panel beaters/mechanics. Also it might pay to get a few quotes before the workgoes through  HTH

Ummm...

Ever heard of maintenance of a vehicle?

Insurance, along with oil changes, tyres, cam belts etc etc is all part of maintenance.. if you cant afford to maintain a car, then its obviously gonna degrade very quickly...

You shouldnt buy a car, unless you can maintain it, and look after it.. .unless of course you dont care what happens to it...

A little O/T, but this is how nice cars end up as junk.. people finance themselves to the hilt on a bling bling car, then when something goes wrong they cant afford to fix it, or fix it properly
