HID light price ridiculousness

Daaaamn. The low beam (HID) light in my Accord Cf4 died, so as you do i went bulb hunting.

turns out you can only get the low beam bulbs from honda for the nice price of $225 ea!!!

Freakin ridiculous; you'd think something like that mass produced would cost way less?

Re: HID light price ridiculousness

yeah it hurts alright, trade price helps a bit if you know someone who can get it for you but you are still looking at $150.

might pay to double check it is the bulb, the HID have an ignitor (i think that is what it is? ), a little black box which sits inside the lamp can sometimes blow as well. I just swapped the suspect bulb to the other side to confirm the error followed the bulb and not the ignitor. You think the bulb is expensive, wait till you see the price of the ignitor!

Re: HID light price ridiculousness

goto a wrecker and buy a second hand bulb out of a b4 legacy or something else with hid bulbs. i get factory subaru b4 kits and retrofit them to some of the custom cars that i work on. way cheaper than the kits off trademe

if you buy aftermarket hid bulb, you should buy them in a pair, because if your headlights arent the same color. you fail wof.

Re: HID light price ridiculousness

And I was complaining about a high beam bulb for my CL1 retailing for $39....

Lets hope I dont blow a low beam one, might just have to start not using my headlights...

Good advice. I blew an HID bulb in my CF4 too and just got a new replacement through Honda. It was noticeably duller than the other original bulb and I got failed on it... Apparently they change colour over time? Buy a pair from cokeboy on Trademe for less than a single bulb from Honda. That's what I ended up doing and they've been brilliant.

Are your new ones still a nice white colour like the ones from factory?

Re: HID light price ridiculousness

Cheers guys, had to go to wellys urgently so was forced to get ripped off by honda palmy. The new one is noticably whiter than the other one though. May have to get a mate to do the WOF.

Will definately look into getting an aftermarket set if i'm doing it all again

Whiter even, they're 8000k, I was stoked

It's interesting that your new one was brighter than the old one ProjectT, mine were the other way round.

a mate in his dc2 was pulled up by the cops (with stock headlights) and told to turn them off (drive WITHOUT LIGHTS) at night because they were too bright
