| Senior Member 7,000rpm (Peak Power) | Re: Awesome space framed prelude racecar on trademe It looks like the perfect project for someone to take on to finish, imagine how much cooler it would be if it was all nicely detailed and the ranginess tidied up. I'm thinking ditch the 'lude panels and make a 1-piece lift up shell for it, maybe a torneo body with massive box flares or something, DTM style. |

A huge & heavy as torneo body making it higher and less aero dynamic also way more body roll and flex over the old 2 door light and prbly stronger chassis from the 80's, I dont think so Tim. No offense though dude dreams are free. just depends on the wallet, lol.![]()

It would just be a one piece fibre glass shell over the existing chassis/frame engine thing. Wouldn't add weight or change the chassis dynamics, just tidy it up a bit. I think it would be awesome, i'll start the sponsership off by chiping in $10 ![]() |

The whole shell would weigh maybe 45kg maybe less. As far as I can tell that 'lude body is still steel so it's heavier than it needs to be. The DTM cars are only representations of production cars for marketing reasons. Dimensionally, structurally and mechanically they have barely anything in common with the car they represent, not even wheel-base or door size some dont even have doors you climb in through a hatch. I have a copy of the 2006 technical regulations for the DTM series right here on my desk. I was involved with some of the early organisation of Class-1 Cars South Pacific (which never went ahead) and was based almost entirely on DTM rules but with Asian-pacific (including japanese) car manufacturers. Anyway it was just a thought and yes wallet dependent of course. btw never say it cant be done, because inevitably someone will do it and you will end up looking like a fool.

| Senior Member 3,000rpm (Grandma Drag) | Re: Awesome space framed prelude racecar on trademe Yeah i missed your point, But i thought staright away from reading your post who's gonna go to the trouble of doing all that for the OSCA's if u ever went off the track or hit a wall or someone hit you it'd cost $$$ just to repair it so yeah a deeep deep wallet & plus that old 80's shell as you put it, prbly help's hold it down abit, otherwise to light might equal wheelspin issue's, i think the setup is right as it is just needs tidying up & possibly more lightening, because it was first in its class! and 5th overall. Thats means it beat out alota big boys toy's that woulda had prbly twice the HP & i think u missed that point to begin with too, i dunno. But anyway point taken i didnt realise the chassis wasnt there of course being space framed i shoulda realised that to begin with. DOH! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Re: Awesome space framed prelude racecar on trademe dude the cars only 850kg how much more lighter than that do you need, Prob around the same weight as a crx but its rwd and 380odd hp will go plenty well 350hp in a crx is violent any lighter and it wouldnt stay on the ground

Its been around for years! I remember about 10 years ago checking it out at taupo, racing with its team car. a 13B Turbo powerd mini!!! Which cleaned up by the way and was faster than the lude when I was watching. I actually watched the 13B turbo mini race against the 700HP lighting direct porsches. IT was a good race too ![]() |

My crx was 780kg on the speedfactor 4-wheel scales and it has a full chassis & 6-point 1/2 cage so it's not even built to be ligth weight. This lude sure has room to be lighter. Downforce. An Ariel Atom is 465kg and 300hp and stays on the ground just fine. F1 cars are sub 600kg and 800hp and they stay down so well you can drive one upside down in a tunnel. There's no point in arguing that lighter isn't better, you brake quicker, you corner quicker and you accelerate quicker, you use less fuel, you use less brakes and you use less rubber.
