| Senior Member 700rpm (Idle) | Higher top speed? Just had this conversation with this guy on another forum. Reason why I'm asking for your opinion is because the guy (19yo) is out of his mind and can not belive him, got his licence some months back and is already suspended for speeds like 200k on 120k zone and 170k on 50k zone and all in a poor Del Sol sohc vtec. People are begging him to stop driving like an idiot. THIS WAS NOT IN NZ! Basically he claims that after you top up due to wind resistance (not redlining) you can gain at least another 20km/h top speed (or until you run out of revs) in final gear if you tap the clutch. Now all I can smell is burnt clutch and I feel sad for the poor car. Some people argued that it might work, others said you can loose traction and at 200+ in a del sol you are stuffed and others said it won't do anything but stuff up your clutch, pressure plate and God knows what else. Anyone tried this? Can this work? And NO!!!!! I'm NOT going to try that. |

Location: Auckland | Firstly, get that clown off the road If you do top out at, say, 200km/h, and say 5000rpm, by revving up to redline then dropping the clutch, you would get a tiny kick from the extra momentum of the crankshaft. This would not - however - be enough for another 20km/h (for which you'd need maybe 30+hp). You would also have to factor in slowing down from the wind resistance while you're off throttle. And yes, you clutch would not like you for it. And yes, you would have to be a professional fucking moron to even try it

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | probably saying that cause they are going so damn fast the front wheels arent even on the ground so the speedos reading inaccurate lol. No way a honda can loose traction doin 200 km/h unless u have 155 80 r13 tyres, h22 swap with a muva fawking fat turbo on there.

| Senior Member 700rpm (Idle) | First of all he's not my mate. I don't even know his real name.... And would be happy to hit him in the nuts if I saw him. It was just a conversation on a stupid forum. The car is not limited to 190 or whatever because its for the european market and all this is in europe not NZ....like I said before. Just wanted to confirm that he's full of shit. Thats all. Thanks for those giving a proper answer. |

| Senior Member 7,000rpm (Peak Power) | come on it might work, like saving gas with the ol maori overdrive down the bombay hills etc.. top of a big arse hill, do 190kmh going down jumo on the clutch and watch it keep gaining speed.. be keen to try at that speed though

Location: Ashburton | so the cars not speed limited?? never heard of the idea but should be able to do over 200 anyway i know of a sohc getting to 260 on the moterway as far as i know it was useing no revcut or raised and was nitrous all the way trying to destroy the engine before the dohc went in ( and no was not me never even owned one ) edit - and yeah no way it could be dangerous on a decent road its not exactly about to break traction...
