*customised suspension I meant. There is a photo of his enginebay around somewhere where you can see the tophats even have notches for the toparms to tuck into.

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

whaa?

Top hats are part of the coilovers, you won't see those in an engine bay pic.

I think you mean hes modified the the tops of the strut towers to allow a little extra room for the upper control arms to swing... but you already said that.

What Chris is referring to is the bit on the top of the shock that bolts to the tower. It looks to have been extended so that the stroke of the shock can come up higher.

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

Sorry, I meant strut towers - as you can see they have been extended up, and have that notch which I'm guessing allows the top arm to sit up higher? And yea, it would have to have those groundcontrol tophats to get that low. It's all relative in the same area.

I am trying to find a page which actually lists what has been done, but all I find is pic threads .

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

I read somewhere that it is just koni yellow (short version) on the GC top hats.

And yep they just cut the top out of the strut tower so the upper control arm has more room to move up. I was going to do this but my painter was a cock bag, glad I didn't haha.

Well wouldn't have to have those hats to get that low got grinder lol

Offset: there's extended top hats on the coil overs and cut sheet metal on the strut towers, they are different.

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

they all just use the standard Koni Yellows bro; paired up with GC's they go nuts slammed.

you do not need the extended top hats to go low as well; all the top hats to is give shocks more travel.

they do however, add more grooves on the body to lower the cir-clip, so coilover sleeve sits lower.

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

Be cheap and easy to make some extended top hats up.

I think what he means is that more travel can be retained and the springs doesnt needed to be as pre loaded as the shock still sits higher and

Extended top hats do give you more strut travel, saves trying to get crazy with machining the damper adjustment part of the piston.

$779 USD for koni and ground control.

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

Not a bad price, i can get staff price for koni stuff, so could be an option for an even cheaper suspension setup, so they use normal koni yellows, no dampner adjustabliltiy or anything?

How much for ground control sleeves anyone know?

They don't give you more travel. Your right though it's a better idea than machining the spare which more often than not screws it up.

All they do is move the mount of the spare up higher so the travel remains the same.

Maybe splitting hairs but it only offsets the travel over how much you lower it, travel is travel.

Also might want to note that you will be much more likely so smash your strut towers with them, sucks up a lot of droop (anyone care?) & you'll probably still be on the GC bump stops a bit.

Eh, I'd get them, they look cool

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

Exactly what I meant, you are moving/offsetting it, but that's travel you wouldn't have if you didn't use the GC tophats right? Yes you do need to relieve a section for the UCA if you want to go as low as the EG up there, as you can see in the pic. Or you could just take your bumstops right out and smash a hole in it like you H-town EK'ers

Apprantly you cant machine them at all.
Bozzy had konis in his silver ek intead of buying those extended top hats to keep the coilovers captive like above he just sent them in and got them to put some sort shim in the shock so it could not get its full travel while still being adjustable.

Re: Post up Honda-Tech's WHORE

I know I'm about to get pee'd on here but really, they lower the cars and put wheels on them ugh so? It's only 4 or 5 nuts to put a wheel on wheres the genius?

The rear camber and staggered wheels on the DC is kak imo if it had the fronts on the back it would be 10x better. Maybe even the other way round but that much camber makes it look retarded...

The wheels don't look too bad IMO (I've seen much better though, oldschool-looking dished mags look poo on modern cars, you know how much I hate work equips on eg's!!), its the stupid looking spoiler at the top of the back window thats got me wondering. Must be jdm....
