Oh and tim if the oil had leaked out of it on the track, chances are it would have mostly washed off at puke when we were out there. There was a Sh1t load of water out there.

Well done in checking when you did. And I expect you'll be checking/changing your MTF more frequently. Quote:

Perfect slogans for a future NZH T-Shirt each, IMHO. :thumbsup:Quote:
The reason I do this is because I use my roadcar for regular trackdays throughout the year. Along with car club events like motorkhana, bent sprints, and dual sprints as well. IMHO I do find on trackdays where they restrict you to just three flying laps, plus a cool down. That Honda MTF is fine. But with the trackdays like chelles where you get frequent, longer duration sessions of 6~7 laps plus a cool down lap all day long. I have found at the end of a couple of such trackdays that Honda MTF has lost its signature, well lubricated feel. So for peace of mind, and the fact I'm nursing a bad third gear synchro with 217,000km on the clock. I change the MTF every time I change the engine oil and oil filter. Much cheaper than a brand new Y1 with LSD, that's for sure. ![]()

| Member 700rpm (Idle) | I had the exact same thing on my ITR, undid drain plug and about 5 drops came out 8O . Wierd thing is it was mint as gearbox smooth as, no whine, crunches or noise wat-so-ever. Topped it up with honda MTF and never had any issues at all after that.

| Senior Member 8,000rpm (B Series Redline!) | Did you undo the fill bolt as well?? it tends to drain quite slowly with the fill bolt still in, but not as slowly as you've described 8O ![]()

| Senior Member 18,000rpm+ Honda F1! | well tim ed and i are pretty sure the box is stuffed, or something in there is anyways. had a good drive to taupo this morning (windows down the whole way and ho heater FT and on the second session on the track the car was having trouble downshifting into 2nd and 3rd. took it off the track and changed the fluid to something a lil thicker, didnt help, had a look at the old oil (had been in the car about 400km if that) and there were some teeny tiny metal shavings in it along with a couple of bigger bits of brass. drove it home carefuly and just as we were getting into auckland it started to whine a little bit so we were rather lucky to get it home in one piece. tim is taking the box out tomorrow to have it look at then hell decide what to do from there |

Location: Tauranga | Changed gearbox oil to something thicker to help gear engagement problems???? Backward thinking to me. Shame about the box, that brass looking bit is probably a syncro ![]() |
