For anyone considering coming down from the North Island (It's only an extra hour driving time for Wellingtonians compared to Taupo, if you don't count the ferry trip! ), I would be trying to steer clear of the Kaitaki ferry, unless you have a forgiving girlfriend who doesn't mind getting shit for carrying your front bumper on and off the ferry... I can not speak for the other two, but the Kaitaki has it's own ramps, one to get on the ferry and an internal one to get onto the second floor, rather than using the ones at the dock like the other two ferrys.

I am still in the process of seeing if we can do some sort of group discount, so if you are seriously considering coming from the North Island, with your vehicle, give me a PM.

I'll be meeting the ferry in Picton for the road trip between there and Christchurch if people do decide to make the journey!

Sweet, this sounds good, Big ups to you both for putting in the hard yards

If anyone needs a place to crash for the weekend, with off the street parking then flick me a PM...first in first served

Just had a few pms regarding the price of the day compared to the recent submerge/clubsub days.

We have hired the track on a Saturday to try and make the event as accessable for everyone in the South Island (and the North!). The track costs us twice as much to hire on a weekend compared to a week day. If you double the standard cost for the likes of submerge/clubsub are charging for a week day, then that would be $160, not $115.

We need to get at least 35 paid entrants before we even break even, and that doesn't include the safety gear that we have got. The track actually costs us less to hire for a weekend, than it costs to hire the Taupo track on a week day (If we were ever going to do a weekend day in Taupo, we would have to charge over $180 per person for the full track).

Included in our hirage will be the use of the AV-Gas pump (When it is manned at certain times) and pit garages, this is more than what you get at Taupo, for less money!

Come on South Islanders! We've got more than three full months to prepare! Plenty of time!

If you are definitely going to be racing, give me a PM, payment can be sorted out later.

Cheers.

June and July are Christchurch's coldest months unfortunately. Average low temp of of 2 (Record -6) with the average high 11 (Record 21).

Depends what you wanna do? The alps could be a bit dodgy but if you did cross them, the glaciers would be awesome

Go for a journey, and bring some Mud & Snows or Dot-rated Rally tyres and play on the inland Gravel roads

Yeah, it gets cold here, but not heaps of rain which is the blessing. Just take a Harden-up pill, and trust me after a couple of laps of the GP circuit, your car will be happy the air temp is nice and cool

(We run our Twilight Speed event into the night in July, it gets cold, wet and very dark - and probably the most fun event we do at Ruapana all year!)

I'll be there, although giving a hand running it, but should be out there for a few laps, just so all the Honda lads can say they passed a Targa car

Could handle the cold, as long as its not constantly raining. Was more concerned abot snow/ice closing roads etc. Would love to cross the alps and come back up the west coast, but it seems like a bit more of a summer thing.

As James has said, if we get sufficient interest from you North Islanders, then we could sort out a group deal for the ferry. I am getting ahold of someone at Interisland Ferries on monday regarding this.

Its winter, it IS going to be cold....but not too cold (its not exactly the Artic  )

But that shouldnt put you north islanders off, the roads will be fine and just think...colder air means better lap times

Yeah, I'm going to make a few phone calls before the end of the week to find out which one is the most car friendly, will post up all the info once I have it.

At the moment, if you get the web saver fares on the Interislander, it ranges from $144-$165 for person and car each way, Bluebridge = $169 per person and car each way, and you can't book June this far ahead with Bluebridge.

Seems as though all you northerners are pretty keen. If anyone is desperate for accomodation I have a bit of space. Only 10 mins from the track too!
