Hrm, Trivium, have you done the drive? I was under the impression that Christchurch to Picton is closer to 4 hours (It is 350kmsish), and Oamaru is another 2.5/3 hours (250kmsish) south of Christchurch!

To do it in 5 hours you'd have to be freakin flying, doing it in 6 hours is impossible legally. I'd be saying closer to 7 depending on traffic.

Depends really on traffic and how fast you intend on going lol.

If your coming from the south you can pretty much bypass chch thru darfeild into rangiora and save time too.

I'd guess two hours from Omaru to Christchurch four hours with good traffic from Christchurch to Picton with no stops, via Kaikora....give or take depending on conditions

Again, you'd need to be flying GecKo's estimate is more on the money. Oamaru is half way between Invercargill and Christchurch and that takes 6 hours.

Your brave buying a car from round here, they are all thrashed in oamaru. Sadly they put the for sale signs in the windows then drag each other down the main street thinking it impresses people into buying their rides. When in realism you can bearly see the car for the clouds of smoke pissin out.

Cheers for the link hornydevil i actually have no idea were im going so that should help me. The car is only cheap and i have a transplant engine sitting here waiting for it anyway just as long as it survives the drive home.

Well... I rounded that a little But there is some shortcuts to save 20 odd minutes down this end. And I never go through the city, so that saves at the other end.

Back OT, if you want to avoid driving through Christchurch to save some time, go left at the second set of lights (after the mall) which is Carmen Road and follow your nose. The road changes names about four times, but it goes past the airport and Clearwater Resort, and finishes up past the top of the city not far from the start of the northern motorway.

For real. Hah. I just know where they go and don't pay much attention to the signs.

Are you talking about Waterloo / Foremans Roads?

im not sure how long it takes to get from Oamaru to CHCH, but from CHCH to Picton would take 4 1/2 hours at best and shouldnt take more than 5 hours.. so whats that bout 7 hours from Oamaru...?

Thats with normal driving and a couple fo toilet stops etc...

If you really want a long trip try towing your car all the way from Invercargill to Auckland.

Leaving at 2pm on the Thursday and arriving in Auckland the Friday night around 9pm (no passangers and doing all the driving myself).

Now that was a long trip :!:
