chips and chip burning (not potatoe chips)

hey looking into this for quite a while now

i have turboedit and seems to look quite useable now that i have read a whole heap of logging info and actually how to do it.

but all i need now are a burner and blank chips
going to be chipping and editing chips for PM6 ecu's

if any one knows im after a chip burner they are for sale for like $40US and is that ready to go or do i have to buy sockets to fit the pm6 chips?

and where abouts do i get chips from?

cheers

any help appreciated

mike

You don't "burn" chips, you program them

The process of writing a chip is 'burning' it, thanks largely to burning away the path that creates the 0 instead of a 1(or other way around). Not wanting to be pedantic or anything...

Uberdata does at least p06, p28, p30 and p72(it comes with those baseline BIN files). I've also got Chrome, which can do a range of ECU's, ODBC1. Ghettodyne I think it was did ODBC0 ECU's.

My chip burner has somehow been misplaced, so i've got to get another one now too. I get chips for mine(P72, 27c256) from dick smith but that's like $14ea. Go to surplustronics or other places that deals in electronics, they're a reasonably common chip.

i've used the dicksmith 27c256 without a problem, also built their silicon chips eprom burner and that works fine, only thing is if you're going to use 512 chips it dosnt have a config there so you will need to manually set the jumpers and settings.

Turboedit for OBD0, so yep turboedit works on the ZC

you will also need an eprom eraser which you can make, however i found mine on trademe... very old unit but it does the trick for $40

Ghettodyne website tells you what chips to buy and what socket to solder in to hold it as well, as did all the websites i found for it when i looked a few years back now. go check out www.pgmfi.org or .com? That seems to be a good forum to be asking stuff at

you need a 27c256 chip, you can use 27c512 if they have no 256's left... just means that you have to doubble up the bin file that is burnt to the eprom

I have the eprom programmer from dicksmith, using the software supplied to burn the bins and turboedit to tune the maps

I had nothing but issues with the writer from dicksmiths. Tried all sorts of configs(SPP/ECP/EPP/ECP+EP, using WinXP, Win98, tried from laptop and from desktop. Loaded the proper config file. Would never read or write a chip properly. But then again someone else assembled the kit for me. At the time i figured $40 to build for me was a bargain...guess it wasn't.

Anyway that chip writer has been misplaced somewhere somehow and need a new one. Any ideas where I can get one from?

And we don't need Gizzmo, just a wideband I've got an Exhaust Gas Analyzer arriving in a few weeks I hope, which clips inside your tip. Maybe not quite as good as a wideband in the headers, but a whole lot more portable/convenient.

DSE kit $112 I believe, but for about $130USD I can get a Batronix already assembled unit sent over which is looking like the solution

Best of luck with your project for the weekend though! I've got about 5 bin files I need to burn soon as I get another burner for ppl

$112 for the writer, ironically none of the stores with them are in the south island so you will have to get your local one to import one in for you.
http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.sto...uct/View/K3605

$14.40 for the 27c256 chip, Invers has them in stock apparently
http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.sto...uct/View/Z9356

What i would like to know is where to buy wideband o2 setups and how much they cost?

i have a L1H1 wideband o2 here if anyone wants it, $80
Can be used with the www.wbo2.com kit

the dicksmith eprom burner is good, if you can assemble it... i wouldnt say its a beginers job at first hand soldering.

Re: chips and chip burning (not potatoe chips)

i a have a willem EEprom burner. it works real well. i didnt import it but the guy who did sold it to me for about $110, apparantly he had to wait a while for it be be put together. worth a shot.

Tom.

i just did a search through DSE they say the chips are only $5 (is that right?it was a UV one as well), jay car also do them, i think they are about $15 (if jaycar is in the south Island) i also made my own UV eprom eraser but combining a 12V fluro light system with a UV bulb
