| Flashing Driving down to dunners for the Crave ( ) the other weekend and noticed quite a few drivers flashing to warn of (semi) hidden speed cameras. Flashed a few people myself and got a few friendly waves back from happy motorists pleased to avoid getting ticketed. Personally I'm a fan and flash away to warn others, what do you guys (and gals) think?and also, is there anything illegal about flashing? obviously the cops would get a bit pissed at it, but is there anything they can actually do? |

Besides if you get questioned about it just come off all indignant and say "I was simply warning the other traffic it was going too fast for the conditions".

Location: Porirua | I always flash, and i always like to recieve a flash. Not only for speed cameras, but also other dangers that may be on the road. I think the cops can nick you for flashing but not sure as i have never been pulled up for it

| Senior Member 3,000rpm (Grandma Drag) | me and my mate got pulled for flashing, there is nothing the cops can actually do but when we got pulled over he proceeded to try and find anything that was even slightly wrong with me and the car. Lucky for me i was driving an unmodified new model car of my mums so it was all sweet.

and the way i think of it, by flashing you are are actually preventing traffic offences from occurring, so it must be all good. to those who voted no, just curious as to why not? lazy or moral objection?

Location: Dunedin | Yes I usually flash, unless some one is being a dick and deserves a ticket (or if they're driving a flash new BMW/Merc/etc ).Actually if some one is doing excessive speed (especially in built-up areas) I'll flash when there is no cop ![]() I'm pretty sure you can't be done for it - I remember it was on Fair Go about twenty years ago!?! Besides, I can't see what crime you are commiting; you're essentially telling someone to stop a crime to avoid detection. I can't see how that would even be obstruction. But if they do catch you - even though it's not illegal - I'm sure many cops will give your car a good going over. So much for the police oath of treating people with out fear or favour...

| Senior Member 3,000rpm (Grandma Drag) | I flash in the daytime, but if there's nothing the po can do about it, I'll be doing it at night as well (can't be sure a car isn't a mufti cop car at night). I sometimes flash at random and laugh at people slowing down (even when they're doing 50) when I get bored. |

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | I flash for danger on the roads - not if someones speeding - i personally dont speed (i usualy sit less than 10kmh above the speed limit) and dont really wanna have to put up with other people speeding on the road so if they get pulled over - well doesnt worry me - also if the cops have say a 3 ticket per hour quota, and someone else doesnt get pulled over because i flashed them, wouldnt there be more chance of me being pulled over if i happen to go past the same cop twice?   however any time theres something dangerous ahead ill flash straight away

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Just remember to wait until you are out of view of the cops as you are flashing more than your headlights - your taillights flash as well. I never used to flash, but since they started the zero tolerance of those going more than 10 over I do - especially if they are hidden on the sort of road where it would actually be safe to go 140 if it was legal. |
