| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Any Feedback? One of my letters got printed in the Herald today, and as part of putting off doing my maths assignment, I was wondering what you guys thought of it. It's not my best letter, but I wanted to know how it came across? It went something like this: As the driver of a modified vehicle I am as deeply concerned by the shooting of a “Boy racer” on Saturday night as I am the impetus it has added to Clayton Cosgrove’s proposal to allow Police the power to seize vehicles at their discretion. The Police in this country simply are not trained sufficiently to wield this power. This law needs to have very precise conditions under which a vehicle can be confiscated as all too often the perception of events of a bystander are inaccurate. When does taking off quickly from a traffic light become racing? Will simple speeding now be classed as racing, if you are in a modified car? What sort of evidence will the Police need in order to prove someone was racing and sell their car? In the majority of traffic violations the only evidence is the testimony of the officer issuing the ticket. Is this really sufficient proof to seize and sell property, often worth tens of thousands of dollars? Officers on patrol on a Friday and Saturday night will encounter many vehicles committing infringements, can they be relied upon to remember the exact details of a specific event when it comes to court? Perhaps this law will discourage young people from taking their cars out on a Saturday night. Maybe they should take up drinking instead. PS. Positive feedback would be the most productive, but feel free to say you didn't like it if you can say why.

Easy as, and then your voice may get heard!

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | By the looks of your letter from the Greens, Ana, the bill is going to get stalled and not passed until after the election, by which time no-one will care about us anymore, andit will just be another broken election promise! Still, I think it's a good idea to go ahead with improving our image to the general image to the public, or at least distance ourselves from the street racer crowd.

Location: Outside NZ: United Kingdom | hey well done Cubic for getting your letter in the paper. Just to prove that not everyone is against us, i think you should check out todays Herald. It has 2 of the 3 letters on the 'boyracer' issue on our side, although admitingly they seem more concerned with public rights etc and the fact that NZ should not become a policed state. |
