As part of Web2.0 people are phasing out the targets in links for new windows etc, as most people know that middle click or control clicking does the same thing (ie, open in a new window or a new tab), so at no expense in terms of more time to the end user they can acheive the same effect. Where as if we make the target a new window, if someone doesn't want that they are forced to have it unless they take the time to right click and open the link in the same window, blah etc. So theres method to my perceived madeness, as always, cause I'm awesome. |

![]() i doubt anyone would log onto NZHondas specifically for the purpose of linking to a sponsors website, therefore you can assume they won't want their previous window overwriten ![]() not that i care... ![]() | |

Also, best practice is to let the user decide how they want to navigate, not force them in to opening a new window. There is always the back button anyway.

"Personalise their internest experience" I guess. So, this includes making them do things. If they want a new window, fuck, its as simple as one or two clicks. Or holding CTRL while clicking on a link.

You consumer whores ![]() Add in that the most common method of opening a new window is not XHTML Strict validating. That means that using that method has been deprecated, so in the future even less websites will be doing it. Better get used to it now!
