Tonight.

Not really.

At the moment just click the adverts and make your own enquires, sponsor info will be up when membership is open again.

Yeah I saw them last night, there was a Gareth Morgan one so I clicked it and it did absolutely nothing.

Bless you Vista for making things not work

Re: when did we get ads

Well, dammed if you do and dammed if you don't in that situation.

As part of Web2.0 people are phasing out the targets in links for new windows etc, as most people know that middle click or control clicking does the same thing (ie, open in a new window or a new tab), so at no expense in terms of more time to the end user they can acheive the same effect.

Where as if we make the target a new window, if someone doesn't want that they are forced to have it unless they take the time to right click and open the link in the same window, blah etc.

So theres method to my perceived madeness, as always, cause I'm awesome.

sounds like you should get a job working for apple
i doubt anyone would log onto NZHondas specifically for the purpose of linking to a sponsors website, therefore you can assume they won't want their previous window overwriten

not that i care...

The web is bigger than PC/Mac's with browser software

... and, some pop-up blocks / IE7 will block that link from opening in a new link.

Also, best practice is to let the user decide how they want to navigate, not force them in to opening a new window. There is always the back button anyway.

Re: when did we get ads

Double edged sword, whos to say your not forcing the user to overwrite the existing windows content... swings and roundabouts, and around we go lol.

I'd just leave it, I hit the banner said "oh" and hit the back button, no drama.

Re: when did we get ads

Sadly, in their pursuit for usability, developers don't factor in the fact that there are users lazy enough to find trouble in opening a link in a separate window .

As Steven said, one of the motivations behind Web 2.0 is allowing users to choose their own path on the internest. "Personalise their internest experience" I guess. So, this includes making them do things. If they want a new window, fuck, its as simple as one or two clicks. Or holding CTRL while clicking on a link.

Re: when did we get ads

Web 2 is just a marketing term. You consumer whores

Add in that the most common method of opening a new window is not XHTML Strict validating. That means that using that method has been deprecated, so in the future even less websites will be doing it. Better get used to it now!
