Re: List of things to change

Expiry times for new posts could be something to look into - on the old forum when you'd login, the only threads that would show up as having new posts were the ones that had been posted in since your last visit.

Now, all threads show as having new posts unless you've read them or manually clicked "mark forum as read" on the main page. It's kindof annoying to see threads that show as having new posts when they haven't been posted in for a few days, or their posts haven't changed since the last time you logged in. Just a thought.

Well yeah, but I didn't have to do that before Maybe I'm just being lazy, but like I said, it's just a thought.

Re: List of things to change

That's been covered a few times before. This is the preferred way to do it as rather than leaving it up to Cookies/Session data which can get corrupted easily, it stores the threads you read in the database, so it's always perfect.

If you use the New Posts link at the top of the page, it actually differentiates between new posts and new posts since your last visit, otherwise just remember to click the mark all forums as read!

After a week or two of doing it this way I might make a thread and judge what people think of it, we can always switch it back to cookie/session marking.

Re: List of things to change

So that people that have cars/rims stolen can post in there instead of making a new thread in general.

Re: List of things to change

In the parts exchange forum i enjoyed browsing through everything listed haveing them seperated into catergories is o.k but its a real pain having to go back and the into other catergories when each catagorie may have only had one or two posts and seeing as i have a pretty lax job i find myself on here doing this up to 3 or 4 time a day . Would it be possible to make an all parts posts catergorie awswell so you either view by catergorie or if your a compulsive window shopper like me and like to look at everything your able to with ease?

Re: List of things to change

what about a stickied 'Trademe Finds' thread? so if someone finds something on trademe that might be of use to someone, or is a really good price etc, they can let everyone know?

I hear you, but this is something that came up on the old forums, I think for best exposure it's probably better left for GenDis. We don't really want to keep adding subforums just for the sake of it...

Sort of, with a little bit of search trickery. Check the attachment. Just to go to an Advanced Search, select all of the Buy Sell thread prefixes, and the Parts Exchange forum, as long as you select 'Include Child Forums' it'll show you every single post ordered from newest to oldest (Unless you specify otherwise), effectively being the same as the old system..

That what you're after?

Na you're probably not imaging it, most of the large javascript files are hosted with Yahoo, we also run a plugin to delete all of the unused code/whitespace in the html before it's being sent to your browser, so the files your downloading should be smaller.

YUI is it?

If anything they seem slower to me.... though that is the same for me with Talk Audio which is also VBB, so it may not mean anything.

Sorry I missed your post, I'm not much of a fan of stickied posts for stuff like that eh, to me things get discussed out of order and it's just a real abortion. Will put it in the to discuss pile.

Is everyone happy with the current list of stuff I've got up there? Are people really hanging out for other things? Should I be changing my priorities etc?
