News Section

Ok guys I have an idea, instead of creating a new thread for every single news article, why don't we just have one thread for all news related discussion? This can make navigating the off-topic forums easier as it isn't all cluttered up with multiple news items of the week. What do you guys say?

I prefer having a seperate thread for each. It makes it easier to discuss each one. A thread would get too cluttered. And it's not like there's HEAPS of them..

My 2cents.

Having multiple discussions on different stories in one thread would be a nightmare!

how about a catagory for news, like off topic etc, instead of just one thread?
so everyone can post up in individual topics on the various news items ?
my 10c since 1s 2s and 5s are now gone

Good idea. I'll shift this to the website suggestions forum.

So, maybe title it "Current Affairs"?

yeah would be good to have a current affairs sections as we seem to be raising more of these threads, also means that I can stop reading the paper and spend more time here

Yeah I run one on my site called "Polls Apart" because I usually post news items with an opinion poll, saves a lot of posting.

We're not creating any more forums until we start to run phpBB3 (Which just went RC1 today...), as it can allow nestled forums inside others.

Good idea, we'll put it on the todo list along with different meets forums depending on geographical locations, etc, etc.

Are you guys going to wait until the final version of phpBB3 is released?

From now it's not really a matter of waiting since there will be upgrade paths and it's highly unlikely any of the database schema will change, it's a matter of recoding everything else that uses either the phpBB authentication system (Profiles) or the database (News articles, our paying member back end and a few other minor things).

So we'll just do it when we (Mainly mick ) has got the time.

Fair enough. I'm in the same boat with Team FBI.

Good luck anyway I've played around with the beta releases, and there's a hell of a lot of really cool features which are going to be fun to play with.

Good to see positive reponses and feedback to my idea. Was just something I thought up while looking at all the news threads so definitely open to improvements and modifications from everyone. 8)

Yeah aye, the new theme is nice enough to use as well. I think we'll be waiting till new versions of the main themes we run are available as well.

That's something that I don't think will ever happen, as they are just super spamtastic central. The only way it will happen is if we make it so only the topic starter can reply to their thread.
