The "Location" Field

Suggestion: Replace the "Location" text box with a prepopulated drop-down list of locations. Make it a requried value when people sign up.

Trying to guess where people are from when they post in the Parts Exchange is a pain in the ass. I know they should include detail like that, but most don't.

Yeah sure its a good idea in theory, and something i've thought about in the past, but what about the poor sap in Waiatoto with the DA6 that has to choose somewhere like Greymouth or Queenstown instead, when really they're no where near those places?!

We may in the future integrate it with Profiles..

meh if people dont wanna say where they are why make them?

if they are selling shit its realy in their best interest to advise where they are.. if they wanna sell shit.

Fair call. I thought of it immediately after I posted the suggestion.

I agree. Poor contact info = lower probability of successfully selling the item(s).

Maybe a forum policy could be put in place then. ie. If you want to sell then list your location, or something along those lines.

I think thats more of a common sense thing, if people really want to get a sale they'll put all of the details in the post..

Enforcing such a rule would be so tiresome, as the for sale section is probably the busiest.

just wanting to bump up this idea, been seeing a lot of "where abouts u located dude" posts in the for sale sections, any way to make it mandatory for new people signing up to put in a location and slowly get the rest of the regulars to do the same???

Did you read what it says in the agreement when you signed up to this forum? Most people haven't read that, or the forum rules in the Annoucements forum. I'm happy to post up an annoucement saying "Please set your location to your actual location" but the fact of the matter is some people might just not want everyone else to know where they reside.

You're also very welcome to PM everyone that doesn't have it correctly set (To your best judgement) and ask them to change it to their proper location, as that's something we don't have time to do..

A list of locations and sublocations would fix that problem..

For example..

Drop-down menu:

**Hamilton**
-Place1
-Place2
-Place3

**Auckland**
-Place1
-Place2
-Place3

I'm sure a list like that could be copied from somewhere
