Oil to use for turbo Honda

What do you guys recommend?

Id think something like 10w-30 would be alright

Edit: There's a thread on honda-tech and people use all sorts from synthetic 5w30 to 10w40
Honda-Tech.com: Forced Induction: 5W-30 too thin for turbo use?

Re: Oil to use for turbo Honda

yeah I was recommended 10-30 for mine but I also added a bit of an oil stabiliser just to be safe

10-30 semi synthetic is what I use in my turbo cars. Full synthetic seems to like to leak out of various things.

i use magnatec 10w40 semi synthetic.. full synthetic would be too thin.. 10w40 is the thinnest i would go.

I would say Mobil 0w40 if you read the motor mag where they compare all those GTRs I discovered that Nissan fills their new ultimate GTR R35 with Mobil oil from factory as it will work really good with performance engines!!!

I used 10-30 on all my past turbo hondas and it held up fine, did have a little build upo in the breather but it did the job

Hondas are different to Nissans, unless you are talking about 2F2F4U's prelude GTR...

I run 10w40 in my honda and and 15w40 in any other car i might have.

Factory Honda oil is 10w30 afaik

Re: Oil to use for turbo Honda

I have kind of broken the mold a bit but I use 10-60 fully synthetic, I did a lot of research before making the decision and I'm prety conviced it was a good decision.
I know it was originally developed for turbo nissans but my poor wee ZC is pretty highly stressed so I wanted a bulletproof oil.
Only downside is it's $90 for 5 ltrs.

I will give it a try one day and use the Mobil 0w40 and let you know if its good or not only if I was alive lol

currently on Castrol 10w40 and its bugger burns it lyk a steamer

When I got it from Japan it had United oil if anyone heard of it it was 15w40

It used to be OK no need to top it up when it was United Oil but now Castrol is the problem its lyk nearly half way on the oil measuring thing after nearly 4000Km's

If its already using oil you don't want to be using 0w40w certainly not mobil one either its like water.

Re: Oil to use for turbo Honda

I use Royal Purple 10w30 full synthetic in both my turbo hondas. I never get any build up in the catch can. The DC2's motor is about 206,000km on the clock and it burns maybe 200ml between changes(6-7000km) or about 50ml on a 15min track session. The stuff is amazing and recommend it over anything else.

I checked da engine oil today and it was all good I think last time I checked the oil didnt really settle at the bottom of the engine

But yeh will definitely try mobil stuff as I heard its really good specially if you dont wait to warm up n drive so yeh gotta give it the taste of mobil oil one time and see how it goes btw mine is NA so no need to worry!!!

Re: Oil to use for turbo Honda

You will get so many different responses due to peoples engines in different conditions and how hard they drive them (on the road 30w wouldn't be a prob unless you are crazy driver), how hot the oil is getting etc.

Basically I would assume 10w-30 is much to thin for serious thrashings on a turbo honda for a all day track meet.
but then again you never know.

If it was my car I would not go any thinner than a 10w-40 and thats with GOOD thermostatic oil cooling.

Really you want to ask people in SS2000 with turbo hondas what they run, those are the motors that are getting a REAL test of what oil should be in there if getting thrashed

Re: Oil to use for turbo Honda

I used Pennzoil 10W-30 in my old EK, worked fine. Was a daily driver though and had the odd thrash every couple days, and never had any blow out through the breather.

Coup r are you refering to me or to the original Honda Turbo topic?

As I said sometimes I dont have the time to warm up so needs that proctection. 70% of engine wear happens when the engine is cold!!!
So if I use 0w it would help

Re: Oil to use for turbo Honda

Pennzoil also make the GT series. in a 25/50. Prob only godo if your on the race track or dont use your car as a daily.
I was using the GT race for a while, found this to be ok, oil temps stayed nice and low even on the circuit.

I just swirched to Motul GT3 20/50 fully synthetic. I dont have any leaks at all. But I found the oil heats up faster and the oil runs hotter on the track. I'll prob go talk to the motul man sometime soon and see what he recons.

I would use 300V CHRONO 10W40 Motul.. Expensive but worth it at the end of the day.

Re: Oil to use for turbo Honda

^^^^^^
its what i use
possibly 5w-40 would be better 'Motul power'

might go back to magnetec as I'm not baller enough

it burnt just as much as megnetec, 15w-50 motul may be better for old tired motors like mine
(Wish it was a 5w-50 or a 10w-50)
