Trademe electronic boost controllers

Anyone tried one of these suckers .. Had a quick search of the net and they allow boost gain and can muck around with the actuator opening n closing etc however wonder how stable they are?

im sure everyone is aware of this but be very catious of something that administers your boost levels, especially if your on a non-forged setup, its probably only going to take one spike, and believe me, once you come on boost wether it stops at 10psi or continues to rise to 20psi only takes a split second. just make sure you got an eye fixed on that boost gauge

Boost cut is my friend..

But rest assured, if it doesn't work right, will get an expensive one, I figured for $200, it's worth it just for the other features, such as nos control, turbo timer etc..

i gotta be honest i didnt even look at it, but at $200 it must be reasonable, sounds like an interesting little gizmo if it does everything required of it

Im now running one of my skyline and can say it works sweet; reduces lag, easy to use, awesome installation and feature instructions, holds boost 100% steady @ 13psi on my 5psi actuator, have a 1bar spring to put in for the retune.

Can adjust when actuator opens , how fast it opens, hi boost, lo boost. Can wireup a turbo timer and other options to it including NOS etc.... Possibly not as flash and as many features as a upper market unit, but it does everything that is needed to control boost properly.

Doesnt spike at all. I was expecting to see some as the actuator is so shit, but holds perfect. The actual boost solenoid is quite heavy and beefy, very similar to other ones ive seen other than the greddy beasts.

IMO If you want the most control possible you want a decent size gate with a soft spring.

then add a electronic soleniod control such as this one.

this way you can control from low boost right up to what ever boost you need.
Also the soft spring allows the gate to slam open or control open speed.

(in hondas when running low psi you actually need a bigger gate to stop it spiking because the small gates can't vent off the boost pressure quick enough)

P.S if you have a honda and want to get DIY enough you can chip the ecu and have it control your own soleniod from the ECU software, making it gear dependent, and so on.

Having a soft spring, the gate will literally get blown open by the pressure.

If you aren't running a soleniod controlled waste gate yes.

That's what an electronic controlled soleniod is for. It regulates the pressure side to the gate.
softer spring will give much more control especially on low boost hondas

When the actual spring is soft, regardless if there is even no hose onto the actuator, the pressure in the exhaust housing literally blows open. RX7 s4&s5 turbo actuators are notorious for it, i used to drive my levin with no hose on the actuator @ 15psi, couldnt get any higher unless i used additional springs to hold it shut. My current turbo on my car wont go any higher than 1bar, seeing as its very weak.
