My defi water temp sensor is in the top radiator hose, not the factory place so it could be reading a bit different to the stock one. Don't ask why it's mounted there

it's in the actual hose. Like cut the top hose 2" from the radiator and put a T section there.
The display reads about 99 then the fan comes on. I'm not debating what the factory cut in temperature is or anything else, i'm simply stating that's what happens on my car. I'll make a note of watching it in crome sometime soon when I get a chance to see what the factory temp sensor reads when it comes on.

what im saying is the temp gague is in the top hose and the and radiator fan switch is in the bottom hose. so if your gague says 99 then given the efficency of the radiator the fan will cut in lower

And I agree with what you're saying sounds right and makes sense. However what IS happening in my particular instance is it kicks in at 99ish. That's while i'm stationary. So the effectiveness of the radiator is negligable then. I have no idea when it kicks in while driving.

If your oil temp is 120+ I'd suggest running a cooler!
Your big end bearings will thank you for it
