Turbo delsol in 48hrs, XSPower td05 turbo,201KW dyno pic pg3

some people may remember my car in a million pieces about this time last year when we put a b18c in it and a grunty CUSCO diff.
build thread here: http://www.nzhondas.com/phpBB2/stace...tml?highlight=

that was basically so we had a good strong motor and box ready for a turbo stetup later on. well the time has finally come!!

over christmas i ordered an XS Power td05 turbo kit from the USA. time to get this baby boostin. the kit cost about $1000 by the time it was shipped over including delivery to my door and all the GST and stuff paid.

for that price you get all of this:

OVERNIGHT PARTS FROM JAPAN!!!!!!!!!! errrr USA!!!!!!!!!!!!

the kit includes:
1 brand new DSM (xspower) TD05 turbo
1 polished stainless exhaust manifold
1 dump pipe
1 standard td05 wastegate
all gaskets for this stuff
1 braided oil feed and fittings
1 oil return pipe
1 intercooler
lots of intercooler piping
some silicone joiners and aircraft style hose clamps
1 xspower b16a intake manifold and gasket
1 blow off valve and fittings
2 silicone hoses for wastegate and blowoff valve lines
1 turbo timer
and lots of brackets and bolts and fittings.

also in this photo that we had to get is:
hondata s300 computer
evo 510cc injectors
walbro fuel pump.

then we went to work:
we jacked up the car and drained the oil and water while it was still hot. then started on the intercooler as the exhaust was still to hot to work on.

its a bit cramped in the garage with all the planes in the way.

the bumper came off and the intercooler was mounted up. the intercooler didnt come with any mounting points or anything like that, only two big solid aluminium tabs on the bottom which didnt line up with anything on the car. we had previously made up an intercooler mount for it so all we had to do today was bolt it on.

the stock cold air intake was pulled off and then the intercooler piping was fitted. the kit they sent us had 2 lots of intercooler piping in it. fromwhat we can tell from the xspower website there is one set for a b series honda and one set for a prelude. we also got 2 lots of hose joiners and clamps. most of it didnt fit anywhere. but we have a hacksaw and time so whats the problem.

out of the big massive pile of piping at the start came a small pile of pipes that we cut to size to fit on the car.

all the pipes have lips on the ends to stop the hoses popping off under boost but we had cut most of those off so we put lips on the ends of the pipes that didnt have them. one of the pipes was too small for the lipping machine so we had to but a bead of weld around it.

the kit came with some good quality silicone joiners that have 3 layers of string reinforcing in them. along with loads of those aircraft style hose clamps. they look cool as.

we put the bumper back on but it required a bit of cutting to fit around the intercooler piping.

the blow off valve that came with the kit looks kinda average but it didnt have to be modified and fitted straight on.

the exhaust was cold enough to touch now so we ripped off the old factory manifold and cut the end off it so the bit with the oxy sensor is still on the car. the dump pipe is only about 6 inches long and needs to be connected to the rest of the exhaust. it goes very clost to the radiator too. we have left the welding of this to be done down at speedfactor before the car goes on the dyno.

bye bye NA parts.

the turbo fitted straight up to the motor and makes the car look a whole lot faster now.

the oil feed for the turbo is a good quality braided one and bolted onto the turbo with a banjo fitting and copper crush washers. the fitting on the other end was a 90 degree one that is supposed to be connected behind the dizzy. the 90 degree fitting wont quite fit in there so we got some spacers from waitemata hydraulics to solve the problem.

there was an oil return line that came with the turbo but it was made for an evo 3. we cut the ends off it and made the return from a piece of high temp hose connected to the 2 ends of the evo oil return. this was sealed onto the sump with some high temp sealant.

water lines were taken from the block. basically we just bypassed all the water going to the intake manifold and pumped it into the turbo. the kit didnt come with water lines or fittings to the turbo but my mate groves hooked us up with some.

i scored some evo injectors off trademe and modified them so they would fit in a b18c manifold. the center of the plug had to be cut out.

then we noticed the ends of the evo injectors are fatter and they are a bit shorter than the honda ones. we modified the bottom sealsby putting them on a grinder and skimming them down a tiny amount, you can hardly see it but the left one is thinner. its the difference between fitting and not fitting. we also used the top spacer from the honda injectors as the evo ones are shorter.

the injectors are also low impedance ones where honda ones are high impedance so we had to wire in an injector resistor box from an EF9.

we had to swap the computer to a hondata s300 so we can run the bigger ijectors and tune the car. we sent speedfactor a standard ecu and they sent us back this one, cheers lads.

you can see the hondata board installed on the ecu on the left. the board on the right hand computer is the knock sensor board. these have to be removed when converting to hondata.

we upgraded the fuel pump to a walbro 500 horsepower one, its a straight bolt in swap. the fuel pump in a delsol lives between the seats. we found this out afterf pulling out everything in the boot and the sub and shit. only to find it wasnt there. so then we pulled out all the seats and interrior of the car. great success!!

we filled the motor up with oil and water and then turned the key to the on position to check the fuel system for leaks. it was all good so then we disconnected the dizzy from the engine loom so we could run the motor without the spark plugs going to pump oil through the turbo for the first time. if you are doing this dont disconnect the leads from the sparkplugs and run the starter, its bad for the dizzy. then we disconnected one of the intercooler pipes so the motor is still running NA.

then we fired it up!! it started first time and idled although a bit loud without the rest of the exhaust connected up. there was a bit of an oil leak on the turbo oil feed line so we shut it of and tightened it up a bit more. then started it up again and let it idle until everything warmed up. no more leaks this time. high fives all round. the manifold went nice and yellow.

then we went and had beers, stu had too many

so many infact we could stack 6 bottlecaps on his nose and he didnt wake up.

just gotta book it in down at speedfactor now to get the exhaust welded up and then put it on the dyno.

we are gonna run it on 8psi and hoping to get 200kw at the wheels.

this whole build was completed in just over a weekend. the car was still driving around on saturday morning!

thanks to all those that helped, see you at the drags.

Stace*

LOL! Muppet.

This is rapid building indeed! Makes you wonder how people take 6+ months to do the same thing

Great work!

i think you'll find if you look up "custom" in the dictionary the explanation will be something along the lines of "will probably take fkn ages but will be mean when its finished"

nice work stace! $1000 is dam cheap! thats the strangest looking wastegate sorta thing ive ever seen!! i dont even know if its a wastegate, or wether the turbo is internally gated, sure does look different, bit of a bummer how close the w/g downpipe (think thats what it is) gets to the air filter

looking good.. i gotta get my beast down to speedfactor sometime soon..

and holy hell at the double brown tree... i cant stomach the stuff.. but cheaper than coke a can (if you were to buy them individually).. you cant go wrong

think thats the intercooler piping isnt it? looks internally gated with seperate pipe for wastegate beside dumppipe . nice work hell quick

correct. wastegate is stock mitsi internal one with 8 pound spring. its sitting right under the air filter so hard to see.

really? are they not the same as b16a's, zc's etc, whereby they run thru a 1way valve running thru the inlet mani

yes, but when you put a cam cover on with 2 big outlets on it, nothing else needs to be done... my pcv hole is blocked up.

you still need to by-pass the pcv system, block off the black box on the back of the block. sole breathing done by catch can on tappet cover
