Do you powder coat wheels?

Hey fellas,

Might buy some gunmetal 98 spec wheels to replace my bent wheels but I don't want them to be gunmetal - do you powdercoat them white again?

Cheers

Re: Do you powder coat wheels?

ahh, from what i have herd(being in the paint industry) powder coaters tell you to paint them for better strenght, and painters tell you to powder coat them lol, no one seem to want to do them, cuz there so easy to scratch them when appling wheels, but i recomend painting for better durability!!

Re: Do you powder coat wheels?

I've had wheels powder coated before. Very hard wearing, didn't chip or flake.

Would do it again over painting. Only downside is painting has more colour choices - generally.

Re: Do you powder coat wheels?

Ive seen painted wheels get stone chips, whereas Powder coating seems to hold up a bit better

Re: Do you powder coat wheels?

My experience with powder coating on aluminium gates is that is resists chipping pretty well BUT as soon as it gets a chip its all over and the rest comes off easy as... Anyone else had the same?

yeah, thats pretty much what powdercoating does, it coats over top of surface, doesnt eat into it like paint.... and in auckland, i know of alot of very poor placesm but no good ones.....

Re: Do you powder coat wheels?

you could find someone to swap the gun metal for white one cause the gun metal are hard to find and saves you having to paint them

Re: Do you powder coat wheels?

What about with regards to holding up to heat? I say this because my ITR wheels have turned yellow!

Re: Do you powder coat wheels?

Mine are powdercoated, the finish is pretty good, though not perfect, there are a few pinholes.

Coating seems pretty durable though i havent done much driving on them.

Your colour choices with powdercoating are severly limited. If you want a white or a black you are ok, anything else gets a bit tricky.

Beware the test panels, the colour i selected from the panel doent really look anything like the colour my wheels ended up Might pay to see if they have an example of the coating on aluminium as opposed to the steel test panels, i think that might have something to do with it.
