Location: Auckland | Help me! eg4 pod filter/exhaust/suspension advice needed Hey guys, My names jeremy, just bought my first car, a 92' EG4 Civic VTi Hatch (1500 VTEC Manual). Its completely stock, been doing some planning for some relatively minor mods, but im no mechanic and im unsure of what aftermarket parts i shud be looking for.. Firstly, im looking to get the pod filter/air intake done, dont necessarily need the best out there, but i dont wana crap one.. -Is it true that getting a pod is rather useless if you dont get the exhaust done too? As friend of mine nicely put it- itd be like having a constipated engine, it pushes pretty hard but nothin comes out.. haha, i dunno i this is right but it cracked me up. If this is the case id be looking to the exhaust too, i dont want a big loud 2.5" or 3" beast, just something thatll maximise the pod filter and look a bit sporty.. Secondly, if i get both of these done, will i need to do anything to the ecu etc? or will a tune up do the trick? Thirdly, but by no means lastly, i want to lower it, so springs/shocks, dont want it sitting on the ground, was thinking mabye 40-60mm lower..(its gonna be on some 16s soon) again dont need racing gear but i do want it to handle well without breaking the bank.. seeing as the car only cos me a few grand. Any advice on what products i should get, and even where i can get them would be greatly appreciated, im located in Auckland. If ive got it completely wrong please tell me, id rather find out now then after ive done it! Cheers ![]() |

Upgrading your intake/ adding a pod filter will get you noticeable gains, without touching anything else (i.e. throttlebody, manifold). you can get a intake with filter for less than a hundred bucks. 2) Exhaust This will get you another noticeable gain, especially if you get a decent system with some good headers (or extractors/exhaust manifold). for you car a 2.25 inch will suffice, all up shouldnt cost you too mich if you just get a bolt in job. theres a second hand exhaust system here being sold for an eg for $200. 3) Tune No, you dont need to get a retune after adding those mods however it wont hurt, but thatd be setting you back a few hundred dollars, plus something decent to tune the car on, like a piggyback air/fuel controller. 4) suspension theres heaps of different options, but the cheapest that would suit you is to get some reputable lowering springs such as nuespeeds or kings, thatll cost you about $300 but wont require a cert. up top you wether to upgrade your shocks, thatll mean beter handling but with better springs youll notice an improvement allready. | |

Mr Tec, let me know if ur gonn have those extractors available i might be keen.. And chaos, whos selling that exhaust sustem u mentioned? id be keen to check it out, altho id probably go for a 2".. but we shall see. One thing i am also after is, you know on the rear window there are the little plastic bits that go in the holes in the window for the hydraulic lifts to go in? in both of mine the thread has been stripped so the arms just fall out, if anybody has some or knows where i can get some that would be awesome! |
