Civic panel and paint

now thinking of getting my EF9 civic repainted. would need minimal panel work to remove small dings etc too. anyone done this recently and have a ballpark figure? thanks

would also change from Barcelona green to black.. would that make a difference to the work/price involved?

Re: Civic panel and paint

I think SiRedge? or someone along those lines on the forum had got his one done complete respray? Costed a bit, but painting a car will vary depending on a few factors, i.e paying retail, discounted/mates rates, who does the job, what kind of job you want, inside/outside, prep work, panel work etc etc. Not saying you haven't thought about all this, but just to make sure if you end up getting some huge differences in price comparison.

1: what offset said is prettymuch bang on.....It will be expensivish unless you have the hookups or can do some of the work yourself. (there are some exellent painters on the forum tho)

2:cosmetic forum is further down the page bro

If I remember correctly, GTREF quoted me $4K to change my EF9 from Barcelona Green to Midnight black, yeah, still saving for that.!

Lowest you should expect to pay is $3g... if your lucky. Paint is expensive. Just materials for my paintjob is about $1.2k.

Thanks Colza.

Changing colour wouldnt be a different price if the same parts are being painted. ie: if its just an external spray you use the same amount of paint, cost doesnt change if the paints green or black. But who wants a black car with green jams?

Even as a cash job on the weekend my price would be starting from 2.5k. More for panel work, then you may want glass out etc.

Mike.

had a suspicion it might cost more than the car itself, and therefore not a good idea, but thanks

Re: Civic panel and paint

all depends on what sorta finish your after aswell, there are cheap paints out there that would only cost like $500 for product..... but if you planed on keeping the car for a decent length of time, wouldnt recomend them, for my homers, prices usually go for around $2800, including door jams, but not including the engine bay or interior

Re: Civic panel and paint

I generally charge $2.5-4k just for a general respray (depends on how much needs priming) including shuts, plus panel work. Its hard to justify doing the work any cheaper as i wont waste my time cutting corners and good materials are so expensive these days. prices go upwards from there for extra custom work and show finishes

Re: Civic panel and paint

Hmm not really. It would depend what you paid for it... EF9's in mint condtion have the abiltiy to fetch a fair few pennies. That said, you "do up" cars for love not for money.

Auckland, mad if you dont hit up gtref or fordskin. Futher south crrupt for certain

..... good for truck chassis..? 2k is shit it offers fuck all weathering protection. sure it has it uses on trucks and buses etc but for a car thats gotta look good clear over base is the only product i will use. Most of the jobs we do these days are mettallic anyway. I only like to use reputable brands as well, not only because they are proven, but also bacause if something does go wrong youve got back up from the suppliers and there technical reps. im sure Grant and fordskin will agree as well.

Have you added up the hours to actually prep and paint a car PROPERLY?? Your mate is obviously not charging any labour and using cheap paint....

Re: Civic panel and paint

To ThundaChild's defence, he is a manager of a store selling very reputable products (not just for mainstream use, but show quality stuff as well).

It is a given that the more you spend, the better the outcome will be. So using a lower cost system may not last as long, but that is the concession you make to paying a lower price.

shearer; have you thought about painting the panels that need it in the original colour and buffing the rest (condition dependent)? Could be an option to freshen the car up without spending the amount of a full respray.

Re: Civic panel and paint

I've seen a ~$800 paintjob and it was not pretty. Prep is what makes a paintjob, and I don't think any panelbeater would do it for free. There may not have been any scratches or anything, but if I purchased the car I would have had it re-done.

For $500 I don't think you can expect much at all. It will be a joke.

Re: Civic panel and paint

well so when my other car gets done i will post up pictures and you can be the judge.
Car painters are rip off cause thay no thay can charge a arm and a leg for a job but i guess you shop round you can find cheaper people.
I painted my dads race car with 2k and it came out sweet just did a 1 to 1 mix.
Prep anit hard a light sand with what 220 wet dry masking is the hard part

ITS NOT WHAT YOU KNOW ITS WHO YOU KNOW.

Re: Civic panel and paint

So I guess this chap with 15 years experience is the one who told you it is ok to bog up drip rails and side mouldings?

Yes, it is indeed a case where "who you know" is of great help. But only to a certain extent. Iif you want the job done well, it will still cost. Paint isn't like a set of rims that you can easily take on and off if you aren't happy, I would rather spend that bit extra and get the job done well - and know it is going to last. Hence why I am happy to pay extra to get CRRUPT to do my bodywork, as opposed to a local place that will do it for fraction of the cost.

just because he did is own work on his car doesnt mean he can charge that price.
Im sure if anyone had the time and gear thay could do the job themselfs might be as good but it would still be good.
Im doing the prep myself and hes painting it.

Re: Civic panel and paint

this is interesting here haha
who wants a $500 paint job then??? drop your car off in your lunch break and pick it up at the end of the day, you will prob be able to see the colour underneath and paint will prob fly off in sheets on your way home but you got it painted didnt ya??

i run a business and think my prices are very reasonable, repaints from $2500 considering i work by myself and have $2000 overheads a week to pay and there is around 60 hours in a basic repaint. this means yes i do have to put in the extra hours after work and in the weekends and work all the small jobs in aswell.
resprays dont make me money they are there to pay my bills, the insurance jobs and bumpers ect where you have a quick turn around are how you make money.
look at all big panel shops, they do insurance and lease work beacause they pay well, if you go for a quote for a repaint at a big shop you will be lucky to get a price at under 6k.

I painted my dads race car with 2k and it came out sweet just did a 1 to 1 mix

this means nothing, a 1:1 mix, noone knows what your on about, different paints have different mixing ratios, also i have never heard of a paint that requires a 1:1 mix anyways maybe some enamel or laquers but i guess i dont use repco or supercheap paints so i wouldnt know.

on another note, i have a opening in the start of july for a repaint and will do it for $2750 for change colour to black on a resonably tidy car if your interested
