Which semi slicks

Hey, time to buy some new semi slicks for clubsprints and circuit. I know dunlop is pretty much best, how does toyo r888, bridgestone re55, and yokohama AO48 compare to DZOG3

Re: Which semi slicks

to start off i dont know much at all about semi slicks, but what ive been told is the 03g is not very good in the wet, so for the likes of yourself running club events on road aswell as curcuit maybe a more all round tyre? from what ive been told lately is the 03g would be first choice if your hitting the track but road racing, especially in the wet could be quite scary. im sure someone who knows more will pipe up, if i were you tho id chat with nath, hes in your zone and as far as racing an eg civic on all sorts of surfaces im sure he could point you in the right direction

Toyos are what darren has on his evo, Best performance price ratio. And mag and tire direct will give you a club discount.

Re: Which semi slicks

Bang for buck the R888's cant be beat, there are also 3 compound availabilities sprint, endurance and motorkhana, I think they are called G, GG and GS?
I have the factsheet somewhere but I cant find it.

Re: Which semi slicks

I have been looking at these as well, the older re540's compound is great, cold/hot, and wet/dry. So has anyone had experiance with re55

Re: Which semi slicks

I run the A048 on my car and found them nice.

But hands down r888 is best bang for buck.

Re: Which semi slicks

I have been having a great run out of Kumho CO3, work well in all weather conditions and are great from cold for short sprints, they also last very well. Have just tried some Dunlop O2G and the Kumho are definately on a par if not better and last way longer than the dunlops.

Re: Which semi slicks

I have always had a good run on Dunlop 02G's. Also i have been told the 03G is an even better tyre. It all depends on what compound you get to. I always run a hard one, because i don't have the budget to be buying new tyres all the time. However if you go for a medium or soft there is a bit better grip to be had.

However for dunlop you are talking pritty big $, so if its just for track days etc i think Toyo is a good option.

I have also run Toyos R881 and R888s and the Kumho are a far better tyre wet and dry.

Shit you run hards? Man you're going fast for hard tyres. I've found them needing 5-6 loose laps for them to start to get warm and even then they're not to shit hot. A lap and a bit of softs and they're well and truely up to temperature but 4-5 hot laps of puke and i can blister them up on the left hand side = throw them away. The hards last for ever but you just have to put heaps and heaps of temperature into them to get them to go.

D98 used to be available in super softs . I still like D01's waaaay more then the D02's, they're alot better in the rain but i dont think they're been produced anymore. I'd get mediums if i was you and only run them at events (ie not on the road too much).

How do you find them on the circuit Shaun?, your rally and club results speak for themselves
These will be event only tyres, no street driving.

So no thoughts of RE55?, Also any thoughts on the best way to bed race tyres in for full speed racing?

Re: Which semi slicks

Co3 would be the best way to go for you dont bed in the best they will every be will be first time you use them only problem will be on circuit still work well but can over heat them but for club/track days would be good as normally only 3 laps like shaun says they last alot longer and in the dry would be on a par with the og2 but in wet og2 are better

But only if they have tread as i found out in weekend at puke not much tread heavey rain= wall at 140Kms bugger

would not recommend toyo Kumo would be close in price as well Give Kiely a call at AVS he can sort you out with some kumo's

Re: Which semi slicks

Yeah, heared bout your car yesterday. So you would recommend kumhos over dunlops? I want to do a few track events as well though. Did you used to run re540's I may still be able to get some and have found them alright wet and dry

Re: Which semi slicks

no dunlops before Kumo if you can afford them but not much difference for club level
kumo just not as good as dunlops in wet conditions but Kumo will last you alot longer and they heat up quicker which is great for hill climbs etc
you can fully commit to them in first corner

Re: Which semi slicks

I have only ever run toyo RA1 on the circut. I don't know much about tyres. How would you guys compare a worn in DOT Toyo RA1 (most tread worn off) to the tyres you are all talking about above?

I notice the RA1 is dam cheap compared to other club tyres, last a long time and I can thrash the pants off them 12 laps+ at the right pressure and they don't overheat.
(overheated the rear once, it lost grip) pressure lil to high i think

Re: Which semi slicks

I used Dunlop o2G in this years rally and to be quite honest I reckon the kumhos CO3 were better the year before (dunlops were 9 months old mind you) The main differrence as to why I would buy Kumho over Dunlop is because the Kumho last heaps longer (I destroyed the Dunlops in this years rally) Kumho I get the whole Rally and then the rest of the years racing out of them and I did some testing at Foreman rd and there was only 1/2 a second between them. I have used Kumho in the rain and am very happy with them. I will be using Kumho CO3s on my car from now on they are a good all round tyre at a good price and I get results out of them which is what counts.

Yep i run hards. Basically thats what was on the car when i got it, and ever since then i have just kept buying them. They really do last the distance, and i find that i can get the heat into them quite early. On a race warm up lap i give the tyres quite a lot of punishment to get the heat into them.

I did run one pair of medium compound when they had sold out of hards, and i stuffed these quite quickly. Bear in mind that the 02G in a hard compound is what all of the production cars used to have to run. So they seem to do the business. Also a hard compound in a race tyre is still like a very soft road tyre.

As for saying i go fast on them.........not yet, but we will see.
